It depends on exactly what you intend to do at the gym, and what kind of shape you're in now. The reason a lot of people start going to the gym then quit because they don't lose any weight is mainly because they don't really understand what they are doing. To elaborate, 'exercise' means exercising the muscles in your body. Everytime you exercise a muscle properly, it grows in size (albeit at a microscopic scale), and as time passes and you get in the habit of exercising regularly, your muscles grow noticably and also tighten ('toned'). The thing is, muscle weighs roughly three times as much as fat, so though you will be losing fat, you may not lose much, if any, weight (except in the first week or so, when you'll drop quite a bit, I think due to losing water that your body stores).
The main thing to do is to stick with it. I started going to the gym 4-5 times a week for 2 hrs a time when I was 18. I kept this up for 3 years before I stopped, and though I didn't lose much weight (maybe a stone at the most), I felt incredible; I still had my fair share of fat but that was down to the fact that I didn't eat really healthily (not a bad diet, but not a good one) and I'm a sucker for the booze, BUT I was strong, I was fit (it would amuse me to go walking in the Lake District with friends who were slim and watch them struggle up the mountains) and I'll say it again; I felt great! I should get back into it myself really...
Anyway, remember that improving how you look (or how you think you look) is a lot harder than improving your body's health. The first two weeks are the hardest, then once it becomes routine and you start feeling the benefits, both physically and mentally, it becomes enjoyable almost to an addictive level. Make sure you exercise correctly (the staff will help you with that) and above all don't give up. Good luck.

Depends on a few things, including your metabolism, as well as what you do at the gym.

Beware of over-exercising!!

To loose weight, you need to get your pulse rate up to the right level, for a minimum of 20 minutes. The longer it up there, the more calories that will be burned off, from fatty deposits. The gym instructors would help you work this level out, from your age and other factors.

The other factor to note is that weight lost too quickly is usually the least likely to stay off. Also, weight lost with an exercise plan, in conjunction with dietary changes is also the most likely to stay off. Having a fluctuating yo-yoing weight is not good for your health, it affects your internal organs badly etc.

Typically, if you 'shock' your body with immense weight loss, your metabolic rate will fall, meaning that you will could find it harder to loose more, as well as potentially gain weight, as an after effect. Another reason to take weight adjustment at a more gradual level.

It's possibly also a good thing if you can get to understand why you have been overweight, have you punished yourself at all, from not getting the things that you've needed etc? Has it been a way for you to not fully love and accept yourself? Allot of overweight people have inner issues that are better sorted out, otherwise they are likely to still need an outlet.

OK, I haven't answered your question with how many pounds/Kgs you're going to loose, I've wanted you to consider seriously how you could become more healthy and keep your weight at a more constant lower level too. Plus get you to love yourself, for who you are, whatever your body is like. Do things for you and not others too, is also good advice. I've lost 50llbs over 2.5 years and it's been really tough at times, as well as giving me better health now as well as for the future.

I went to a gym for six months, but was defeated by the boredom and the noisy music. I bought a bike and it did me more good bringing it back from the shop than going to the gym for 6 months.

start up - no nutrition for the 1st 24 hours. Day 2,3,4,5,6 & 7 usual easy food - no carbohydrates after 4pm Repeat above for 3 finished weeks - no longer forgetting speedy on the Monday or whichever day you start up on. the easy thank you to speedy on a Monday is to have Sunday Lunch at say 1pm then consume no longer something till say 1pm on Monday - it is your 24hours devoid of nutrition - and you have in all risk slept for 8 of those hours besides. stable success.

It's according to what you do there. That's a lot of time to spend inside a gym. If you have the time to do it, more power to you. I wish I did.

The amount of weight you lose and the rate at which you lose it is based entirely on how many calories you burn vs. how many you ingest.
