There are so many and they were all horrible acts. How can any one be worse than the other? Any murder, theft, rape or terror done in the name of religion is the worst act a man can commit. Let's not compare. Most people will disagree, believing that the one done to their people was the worst. Only causing more anger and hatred. When we do this we are only perpetuating the atrocity itself.

The Burning Times, the holocaust, 9-11, the persecution of Christians etc etc etc all of them atrocities. EVERY religion has persecuted another religion for not being "Just like them." at one time or another. Some of them have learned, some are learning and some will NEVER learn.

The sacking of Jerusalem in 1099 by the Crusaders. After they beat the city's defenders, they massacred an estimated 40,000 people. It has been quoted that the victors "waded in blood up to their ankles". The killing of men, women and children went on over the course of two days. Pretty brutal. Sounds like modern-day Islamafascim.

I don't know. I'm sure there have been some terrible things. In my mind, however, the worst atrocities in history have been committed by atheists.

People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Whats the worst atrocity in history committed by godless barbarians.

Oh and for you people who answer holocast, Do you really count nazi Germany and Hitler who believed himself to be the messiah as christian? You are sadly mistaken. Just because someone calls themselves christian doesn't make it so. Lets try judging them by their fruits.

1. The burning alive of over 7 million people from 1940 to 1945 by SS garrisons given special priestly powers by the Vatican to perform such activity.

2. The tacit consent to such evil by the allies who not only did nothing, but helped fabricate all kinds of untruths to hide what happened from:
+ claiming to find SS minutes of the final solution (SS never kept minutes of any thing, much less document in writing a plan to kill millions of people...)

+ claiming that the ovens were only operating 24 hours a day from 1943 to 1945

+ claiming the connection between the Jesuits and the SS were merely conspiracy theories;

+ claiming the gas chambers were for killing people and the ovens were for disposing of the bodies, rather than (a) to knock people out and (b) burn them alive.

3. The continued attempt to re-write history to say Pope Pius was pro-Jewish and anti-Hitler.

+ Even today, people who claim to be good people continue to attempt to pretend that Pius was pro-Jewish and anti-Nazi.

+ This is in spite of the fact of over 1200 Jews being deported as late as 1943 from homes next door to the Vatican and the Pope said nothing- even after the German Ambassador pleaded for a public statement to show he was a real spiritual leader.

+ There are countless quotes and references proving Pius was strongly anti-semitic and racist:

In fact, let us look at Pacelli’s own words about his opinion of Jews in 1919 in a report back to the Pope:

“An army of employees were dashing to and fro, giving out orders, waving bits of paper, and in the midst of all this, a gang of young women, of dubious appearance, Jews like all the rest of them, hanging around in all the offices with provocative demeanor and suggestive smiles. The boss of this female gang was Levien's mistress, a young Russian woman, a Jew and a divorcee, who was in charge. And it was to her that the nunciature was obliged to pay homage in order to proceed. This Levien is a young man, about 30 or 35, also Russian and a Jew. Pale, dirty, with vacant eyes, hoarse voice, vulgar, repulsive, with a face that is both intelligent and sly." Archbishop Pacelli (Pope Pius).

60 years ago this evil happened my friends. Just 60 years ago.

Please, let's not go there. How would you define worst? Largest number of people killed in the shortest time, or largest number overall? People killed or people enslaved? Homes burned or simply confiscated?

Plenty of nasty things have been done in the name of religion, various religions at various times. It's a history we'd like to out-grow, not keep picking at the scabs.

atrocities committed "in the name of" christianity are not committed by christians because you cant commit atrocity in the name of a God who sent his only son as a token of how much he loves humanity.

God is love, and no atrocity can be committed "in his name" unless the people actually are just "using his name" for political agendas....
