You cost the government nothing because the government has nothing unto itself. As for how much you have cost the Canadian people, it's too broad a question. Department of Social Services can perhaps tell you how much you have dipped into that specific social pot. Beyond that you'd have to quiz each department and guess what... taking the time to answer the question will cost you and them time, which you'll never see again. So stop wasting your time worrying about it.

No one can really say the exact figure but we can try to approximate using the following as guidelines.
Cost of hospitalization during your birth. EI benefits of your Mom for your 1st year. Child Tax Benefits your Mom received. Health insurance costs, including vaccinations for your upkeep during your lifetime. Daycare benefits your Mom received. Your education from JK to Grade 12. If you live in Ontario your OSAP forgiveness loan for college/university. Your child/student discount on the TTC. If ever, EI benefits you will be receiving. If you are poor, food bank services, subsidized community housing. Community services like the library, community pool, parks. (government has factored you in even you do not use these facilities)

Interesting way to look at the question. In my opinion, you haven't cost your government anything, no matter what country you live in. Government cannot give anything to any citizen without first taking it from another citizen. Anything you may have cost your government actually came from your fellow citizens. Those things that government "owns" (property, real estate, vehicles, equipment, etc.) was aquired only through taxation of its citizens. Government can only take things away, they cannot give anything. People were created and born with rights that no government can expand or improve upon; government can only limit personal freedoms.

I wonder how much, in tax dollars, you have paid to the Canadian government. I live in the US. I have paid far more into the government than I have received in benefits.
