Don't EVER run on a completely empty stomach. If you wake up in the morning and run without taking in any calories , your body will think it is going into starvation and will burn your muscle before it burns fat. If you don't want to have food in your stomach drink Powerade or juice before you run, you just need to put something in your system.

I eat a fairly big dinner at night and run up to 8 miles on an empty stomach and I'm fine. But I only do this when I'm running at 7:00 or earlier, and I get plenty of breakfast after. But other people do snack on granola bars or bread/carbs beforehand. You'll have to try it and see what works for you. Just skip the orange juice and milk- they don't taste as good coming back up!

I would suggest running on an empty stomach to avoid vomitting.
But, if you run too much with an empty stomach, will you pass out from lack of nutrition?
I am unsure of the answer, hun.
But, perhaps you should call the doctor and ask for his/her advice on this subject.
Cheers and have fun running! :-)

Never run on an empty stomach. What is your body using for fuel if not food? MUSCLE. Try to eat something beforehand.
I have to eat before I run or I'll pass out. I've never vomited in my life from eating before running but I know people who have. It depends on what your body can handle but you should have something in your stomach.
Good luck!

I have pondered this myself. If I run hungry I feel like my metabolism may slow down to adjust (not sure if that's the case but it makes sense to me). I like to have a cup or two of coffee then an apple and water before a run (5-6 miles). It puts a little fuel in the tank without making me feel full.

for a short run, yes, run on an empty stomach.
for a long run, you may want to eat something light first, like a granola bar or some oatmeal. but nothing high in fat.

Never... your performance will be mediocre and cortisol will flood your blood and breakdown precious muscle for energy. If this is the only time of day you can fit in a run, I'd recommend a serving of fast digesting protein like whey and some juiced fruits and veggies.

I do,because you breathe better and avoid throwing up and it makes for a more pleasant run.Test it and see.
