Religions, in my opinion do cause many problems that divide the world, with it's many interpretations and beliefs. Hardly anyone can agree on anything. Without religions dividing people and countries, we might have peace and a much happier world, if people had the intelligence to show tolerance and love for those who may differ. That's called Spirituality, and that's what God wants...not thousands of differing religions, each one claiming to be the "ONE", and causing confusion and division.
Altho people's ideas and fanaticism about religion are a great cause of division, there are many other reasons that divide people. It is the lack of tolerance, and understanding for the differences in people, for different cultures, differing gov't policies, etc. Many factors go into dividing the world, but religion always has been, and alway will cause world problems.
All the way until end times, religion will play an important role in wars; as the major religions of the world, Christianity,
Judaism, and Muslims who all want to occupy the "Holy Place" , a Biblical prophecy.

This is a great question!

No, not at all. A lot of people think that.

It's not true...human beings divide the world. If it wasn't religious it would be something else and as we become less religious it is other things. Many like to think if we just got rid of religion we'd be better off...but that is so short-sighted and really ignorant.

Also, it really seems backwards to me. I don't see religion as causing the problem right now...more the intolerance and prejudice against religion that is causing the problem. Christianity is the only faith that is openly ridiculed and berated. Those that preach tolerance the loudest are the first to bash religion and Christianity.

Back in the 60's Communes were a popular idea. No God, no government, like-minded people living, working and loving together as one big happy human family. How many communes do you know of now? Why? Because they don't work. What happened to them...human beings happened. Jealousy, laziness, greed...etc. and so on...these are the things that divide us. Religion is just a popular place to lay blame.

Nope, you are very wrong about the problems. Most of societies problems are the result of immoral rather then moral behaviour. Aid - imooral behaviour, robbery, rape, murder... immoral behaviour.

Organizations like World Vision, Compassion, Childrens Aid, Isaiah 58 etc etc. are helping the poor and trying to solve many of those problems caused by greed and the denial of human rights. Try reading about William Wilberforce and the abolitionist were the ones fighting to free the slaves. So most of the rights and freedoms we enjoy are BECAUSE of the Christian religion. If you look at the countries that have "enjoyed" the freedoms of atheism then you ger Cambodia, China, Russia, Eastern Eurpoe.... You are right I guess it does divide us between those with freedoms and those without!

It is so easy to blame religion for world division, rather than get out into the world and solve the problems of poverty, world hunger, pollution and all the other man made problems that are actually the cause of wars. IF people weren't greedy, indifferent, narrowminded...etc. we would have fewer problems. Coming back to suggest that "man created religion" justifies your stand on why mankind is so greedy, etc., is just as illogical.
The fact that people are intolerant of their fellow man IS the problem...religions are just ONE of the areas that mankind is intolerant of. Racial differences ARE another...and it has little to do with religion.

No, you are not the only one to see the truth of this. However I would say it is both religion and race that divide.
This is exactly the reason for those of us that do not judge based on these things need to band together. So that when the others finally kill each other off, we will be able to rebuild a worthwhile society.

But religions have been created by people! That is to say, we people are the ones who divide the world by our beliefs, and cause most problems ... to ourselves.

Not at all, there are many who think the same way. Now if everyone converted to Islam or Hindusim or Taoism or Buddhism and we were all of the same faith or all of no faith then do yhou think that all divisions in the world would disappear.....nah! The human race is too diverse to ever be at total peace and agreement.

I don't know if we can blame the religions as much as we can blame the people who associate themselves with them. BUT not all people are bad - it's just that some are ignorant and those are the bad apples that cause all the media uproar or even small arguments on discussion gps such as this.

As anti-religion as I am, I don't think it's the religion itself that causes the problem. It's the follower's interpretation of the belief and what they carry out in its name.

nope u not the only one..i also think so because if u really look at wars or conflicts going on around the world mainly in the middle east they all about religion and all that and they are mainly in israel, iraq, pakistan and what do these places have in common? ...they all around where Christ was born..which then brings us to immigrants from these countries which then makes people a bit scared of them and not so sure about wat they are doing in developed countries,a real shame because all these poeple are looking for is a new start .
