A couple of years ago I seen footage on the news of a few Army men spaced out on LSD saying that their own people in charge (government) had given them to them. And its known that they were given drugs especially in the Korean war Why was that ?

These were experiments to test the possible use of these drugs as a chemical weapon in the event of all out chemical war that both sides felt may have been inevitable judging by their massive stockpiling of chemical weapons, protective equipment, chemical antidotes and pre-preventive remedies such as the NAPS tablets given to British troops etc. As well as soldiers being drugged with LSD, at Porton Down soldiers were exposed to nerve agents and mustard gas after being told they were taking part in a trial to find a cure for the common cold. One soldier died after having sarin nerve agent dripped onto his arm.

During the Korean War the government studied extensively the use of LSD25 and other drugs to see if they would help to make a new kind of "super soldier" how ever they soon found out that a person on this drug was unable to function in a way that would assist the Army.

During the 50's the govt had a ready made Guinea pig squad and it was called the Army. They used army personnel in nuclear tests and did drug studies on them (not a lot but enough) That is where the news footage is from. Rumors abound even today of ongoing experimental procedures and drug studies but I doubt that they are true (I served for21 years in the Navy). Soldiers have sued (sucessfully) to prevent drugs (the Anthrax vaccine) from being forced upon them and not many in today's forces will allow anyone to give them a shot without knowing what it is.

I know that pilots are given amphetamines, when flying on long missions, some lasting 24hrs.

And I also heard about ecstasy being used in the US to help people open up and talk about trauma they have suffered, to beat post traumatic stredd syndrome.

and they probably did give them drugs during the korean war as it would have kept them passive whilst waiting around to fight i can only presume

The U.S. Government has given without the military person's knowledge LSD. There has been at least one documented suicide. The officer was at a high level meeting and leapt out of the window in a high rise building. His widow was not informed for a long time that he was given drugs without his consent or knowledge. Alot of the military drug experimentation was apparently for the purpose of controlling people. Civilians, combatants or their own troops. Incapacitating people through chemicals has a long military history. I.E. Mustard gas , W.W.I. Nerve gas W.W.II.. Imagine going up against a troop of soldiers misted with L.S.D. ( not a fair fight)

When LSD was new a few countries did some tests on it to investigate military application. Mostly for use as a non-lethal chemical weapon but the US tried using it for mind control in MKULTRA

Those were tests done in the late 40's early 50's. All the men were volunteers. In korea they were issued amphetamines at the front lines to be able to stay awake.

I am guessing that anybody "spaced out" on LSD would say things many wouldn't understand.
