It's hard to say. It depends on the politics involved. But one thing's for sure, as long as we're here there will be the sun and more than likely wind. If I had to guess, those would be my two best renewable energy sources. I wrote a college position paper on wind energy, and think it's very safe, non-polluting, and actually kinda pretty to look at. If one person installls his own wind turbine on his property (for a large sum up front) he can can make his money back and then some in the near future. A lot of farmers in Europe are making a living on sharing the energy that they get from their windmill. A livestock farm can easily become a wind farm with little change to the livestock.
Solar is really the way to go, as well, it's just been so expensive in the past. At present, the demand for solar panels is much greater than the supply. So hopefully, the cost will go down a bit.

Hope I'm right. I'd rather not switch to nuclear power in the future--seems dangerous.

I don't think there is going to necessarily be 1 main future alternative source. I think there will be a number, based on the locations (at least I hope). I'd think many areas such as Texas and the deserts in Nevada would be ideal for solar panels, especially with much "unused" open space that could be optimal solar-collecting areas. Other areas are more suited to wind power and will be more heavily relying on windmills instead. Other areas will use dams and other methods depending on what the characteristics are of each place. Hopefully, though, we'll be using more responsible greener methods of creating our energy in the future!

To answer Milligans question: One of the reasons that Geothermal energy isn't utilized in Hawaii is because the active volcano *Kileaua* is Pele's breast and it would be sacreligious to drill into Pele's breast. Pele is the volcano Goddess.

Though I'm sure Pele would prefer a little nipple piercing rather than the massive amounts of pollution that other energy sources generate.

I think the heat from global warming will be our main source of energy in centuries to come. If we can channel all that warmth in a good way maybe it won't be so detrimental to our planet.

Well, that is a big question with no real ending. But eventually it will have to come from the elements if its going to be renewable.

There was this report i heard about a power station that takes the heat from the sun, boils sea water into steam in a giant cylander, which turns turbines to create electricity. I'm not sure if it will catch on, but its a start!

There probably going to want to invest more in research and developement. Until that time comes though, either more coal or more nuclear power stations would be needed.

Should be Sun,Water and Air ,when the Oilbarons cannot make any more money on Petrol and when they have figured out a way to charge for the Sun,Water and Wind

anti gravity and some sort of micro nuclear propulsion would be best .We need to devellop transport that floats and does not need roads

I like the kids on the treadmill ,that way the kids can pay for themselves

I would say that maby steam power would be the best way. I mean, we could fill up our cars with water and drive while the water heats up and gives off steam which wont hurt the enviorment, the steam will be evaporated and come back down as rain to be used over and over again. Imagine how cool that would be and cheap...I think that would be a great idea.

Here's an unpopular, but realistic possibility: Nuclear power. Despite all the naysaying, it is clean, efficient and cheaper that what we are currently using. People really love to use scare tactics when talking about it, but most of the scare tactics are hugely over inflated or just not true.

I think we should be thinking about sun, water, and wind based energy sources. These will never be short in supply.

Sun, wind and water. Solar panels, active and passive solar water heating, wind generators, small hydro electric turbines for properties with a stream running through them. Geothermal for home heating.
