I have been driving a honda accord 1998 for about 1 yr and a half, now i am ready to upgrade.
I am deciding to get a Lexus Sc300 or a Bmw 3-Series (E36) Coupe.
I would like your suggestions and opinions
about the car- it could be con or pros. mpg, power, compfort.
Thanks.

As of the Bmw, how many miles can a bmw go until it starts failing? i''ll probably go with a Lexus, seeing how they are reliable and maintenance isn't a pain in the ***, also i've seen some lexus hit 200,000k +

Those old SC300's are beautiful and very reliable, but not as practical as the BMW, the bimmer has more room (Lexus back seat is a joke). Does that matter to you? If not, I'd buy the Lexus - try to find the SC with a stick - they did make them but they're fairly rare. The BMW is probably a better driver, but the Lexus will almost certainly be more reliable as the years go by - and probably cheaper to repair also.
My 2 cents!

If you are going with a used car, definitely get the Lexus. If you are used to Honda reliability, the BMW will not treat you right. BMW repairs are insanely expensive and after a good number of miles a lot tends to go wrong simultaneously including transmission, brakes, etc. The Lexus is a more service friendly vehcile, period.

Out of the box performance: BMW 3series Out of the box reliability: Lexus IS300 not sure on the merc. the IS300 is a great car and would be my choice simply because I dont wanna be in the repair shop with the bimmer.... yeah its funner to drive and whatnot but get real you sound like you're on a budged otherwise you'd be looking at the M3..... and bmw is not a car for someone on a budget or who does the work themselves. not worth it in the end. get the lexus.

A lexus. With a BMW there is a oil that is used and the last time I bought it was $50.00 a quart. That was 10 years ago so go figure.

Lexus, pros: reliability, a better fuel saver, and more comfortable. cons: backseat's too tiny even for asians like me, not much of a driver's car
BMW, pros: definitely a better handler, seats are comfier and its roomier than the lexus. cons: terrible reliability, and heavy clutch on manual model.
Both cars are very expensive to repair and maintain, so I'd recommend the lexus for its better overall reliability. Lexus also has better customer service.

Be prepared to spend a lot of money on repair bills if you purchase a used model on either foreign car. The a/c repair work can be upwards to $1500.00. Power steering leaks $600.00 and complete brake job $600.00. Timing belt, front end, transmission and struts can easily run you at over a $1000.00 each time you bring the car in for service. Stay away from these cars unless you have very deep pockets.

First of all, it seems a little unlikely that you will be approved for either $30K car after a year and a half with a 98 Accord. Not saying you won't...but check into it first, don't assume.
