i just installed windows vista & my sound doesn't work...?

it says "no audio output device is installed."

so i tried going to windows update but it didn't help.

then i tried going to run... & opening the directx diagnostic tool to find out the name of my sound card. but it said "no sound card was found. if one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer."

what does that mean!?

everything was fine before i installed windows vista, but i do NOT want to uninstall it & go back to windows xp because that would be a big waste of time... :(

so how can i fix this problem? PLEASE HELP! it would be MUCHM U C HMUCH appreciated! thanks!

You'll need to find out what kind of sound card you have. Most likely, the driver you had installed is not compatible with Windows Vista. Updating this driver will likely correct your issue.

You can use this free program to scan your system & help you identify what device you have:

You are missing the sound drivers, its that simple, but not knowing what model you have will be a wild goose chase.

Plus, unless theres a proper sound driver for Vista for your model, you may be going around in circles.

Good luck with Vista, as I always say to those who upgrade from XP to Vista :)

Hi there! I think you have to update the drive 1 go to control panel 2- open the device manager 3- find your sound card from there it might be marked yellow question mark if not your driver work properly 4- right click on the top of your sound card and open properties 5- on the top of the window you will see drive click on that 6- click on the update drive you will be done after a while but please make sure you connected to the Internet good luck
