My dog is an Englisch Cocker spaniel, he was all of a sudden paralized on both back legs. no-one stepped on his tail orso. Just all of a sudden he couldn't walk. Does anyone have a clue what it could have been?

Thanks guys, my dog has been put to sleep. I know what it was, wasn't a stroke or something just a Hernia. Operating wouldn't have helped him.

I went to the vet , before posting here, already and he finally got me a result. Thanks guys. However it still was the worst thing I could think of.

apart from being fallen or hit, he could have had any one of a million different diseases and disorders from a degenerative disease to a tumour or humdreds of other things.

you wont know unless you take him to the vet if he is still living.

Im not a vet, I dont claim it but if your dog woke up like this then chances are it could have been a STROKE. Your dog could have jumped off the slightest little thing and hurt itself. There are so many possibilities out there. But I wouldnt be looking on the computer for answers I would be at the vets right now. Please take your dog in the sooner the better. It may be reversable.

Call your vet immediately! Chances are your dog may have had a stroke. If attended to soon enough, your dog could be helped. Your vet will have an after hours or emergency contact number for you to call and you won't be charged for the call either.

Your vet would be the best person to answer this, they can tell you if it was accident trauma, a spinal tumour pressing on the nerves, or a disease damaging the spinal column. Xrays and blood tests are the only thing that could tell you for certain.

There are a million ways it could have happened. He might have fallen or gotten hit. Or maybe he got stuck between something and pulled really hard and broke his back???

Cocker spaniels, tend to have more problems then other dogs. I have a cocker spaniel, he has bad ears, a bad back. and has cataracts in his eyes.

I'm sorry to hear that you lost your dog. It must be some comfort to know what happened, rather than wondering if it may have been something you did.

i am sorry for your loss!!
it must be very hard for you but just think even if you knew why he was paralyzed it would have been no life for your dog. we sometimes want to be selfish and keep them with us for as long as we can but he is in a better place now.
i am still sorry for your loss. my cocker died almost 6 years ago and i still miss him dearly but i know he is better off where he is now.
my sincerest condolences
