You can still get HSV (herpes simplex virus) without an outbreak. The chances are smaller but still there. You are most contagious right before it appears. This is true with both HSV 1 and 2 (oral or genital). A person def knows they have it by having an outbreak once. And then they are positive for the virus and may not have an outbreak for awhile. If the person has an outbreak and you take a sip right after them there is a chance of catching the virus. So the safest way to prevent infecting yourself of this virus or other orally transmitted virus's such as, mono or flu, is to not to share drinks, chap sticks, or make up (b/c you can get herpes in the eye).

Yes, you can - the risk of transmission of herpesvirus through either saliva or genital secretions is certainly higher when there's an active outbreak, but there's still a risk when there's no visible outbreak. As far as drinking after someone, I doubt it (although I suppose it's theoretically possible if the infected person left a lot of saliva on a glass and then someone else drank immediately afterward) - the virus dies *very* quickly when exposed to the outside environment.
Incidentally, the virus you're probably talking about is herpes simplex virus, which comes in two varieties, HSV1 (present in about 80% of adult Americans) and HSV2 (present in about 40% of adult Americans). Type 1 usually causes orolabial herpes (cold sores), while type 2 usually causes genital herpes, although those aren't hard and fast rules. Chicken pox and some other viruses are also 'herpesviruses', in the same family. Those numbers, by the way, are the numbers of people with evidence of past infection; not everyone infected will *ever* have an outbreak, for reasons probably having to do with their personal immune system and genetic makeup.

Yes, herpes can be spread even when there is no outbreak.
I contracted genital herpes from a guy who was showing no signs or symptoms of the virus (like an outbreak). So, it's definitely possible!
Cold sores can be spread from drinking after someone with cold sores. Also, sharing chap stick, lip stick, cigarettes, etc, can spread cold sores if they are shared right after someone with cold sores had their lips on them.
***Also, bardryn, is just wrong. Herpes is NOT "100% contractable". I was with my ex for almost 4 years and he never contracted herpes from me. There are many couples out there with one person having the virus and the other not.

I tested positive for herpes type 2 around 4 years back, when I was in college and had a spupid one-night affair. I think many of women will say this but believe me I never did that sort of thing. I just made mistake that one time and, suddenly, it seemed like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The awful part was feeling I would never date guys again. After all, who wants to go out with a person who has sores around her you-know-what? But after a friend showed me this video https://tr.im/Ric9Y everything has changed. Not only was I able to remove all traces of the herpes virus from my system in less than two weeks, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met my soul mate and I'm so happy to say that just last week, in front of everyone in a restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me! This program offered me the chance to be happy again, and to experience true love.

I got clinically diagnosed with herpes virus (type 2) about five years ago, while I was still in college and had a stupid one-night stand. I realize a lot of girls will declare this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a huge mistake that one time and suddenly it seemed like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date men again. In the end, who wants to go out with someone that has sores around her private parts? But since a friend shared this video https://tr.im/stEQI everything improved.
Not only was I able to clear away all traces of the hsv from my system in less than 21 days, but I was also able to begin dating once more. I even met the guy of my dreams and I'm so fortunate to write that just a week ago, in front of everyone in a busy restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!! This method gave me back the opportunity to be happy and experience true love. Now I want to enable you too by sharing this with the whole World.

ihave herpes and my boyfirend has herpes. for 2 years with my boyfriend i have never had an outbreak on genital area until last week . I believe he slept with someone then slept with me. Is it possible that by him having sex with another woman , even if she is not infected with Herpes simplex would cause a new outbreak for me?
