That would be 250 mg. which is a large dose. His / her heart could stop, blood pressure would fall, dizzyness. Possibly a pacemaker if he got to hospital in time.
Not a good idea.

Nothing will happen on long term but immediately this atenelol will have a effect on his blood pressure and also on his heart rate ! Both will be lowered may not be significantly as the effect is dose related ! 10 to 25 mg of this drug has no much serious effect to call for ! On the contrary it is said that it will give a protective effect his heart! Atenelol is a specific beta blocker to cardiac muscle fiber and with this small dose it may give some protection but it is to be observe for six month time for its long effect and accumulative effect !Ask him to go for EKG and TMT after taking it for 3 month time !And also lipid profile ! And yes he should exclude diabetes because in diabetic people it is not recommended ! All Wrote considering your friend is of more than 30 years of age !Always YouRsmE

Ok, if your friend is calling you and saying that he's going to do something to harm himself, then he needs psychiatric help. People who actually want to commit suicide and truly want to die generally don't call their friends first, they just do it. The ones that tell people about it are asking for help, so help him get it.
As for the medical side, there is a risk that he can lower his heart rate to a dangerous level with that much of a beta blocker (the drug class to which atenolol belongs) or develop a complete heart block, both of which would be dangerous, it's not terribly likely, the most likely thing is that he'll just feel crappy. But that's really not the main issue here.
The main issue is that your friend needs professional help before he lands on a way to hurt himself that's more likely to succeed. Help him get it.

His blood pressure will drop or he will end up with no blood pressure at all and have a cardiac arrest. He should be seen by a psychiatrist if he has suicidal tendencies. He needs to have someone who can let him talk things through.

They would be life threatening. Severe bradycardia, and circulatory collapse is very possible. Please do whatever you can to prevent him from harming himself. see if he will go to the E.R. for a Psychiatric consult.
If he already did this induce vomiting and call 911.

It will lower the heart rate, possibly kill him. I would encourage him to seek psychiatric help.
