We are looking for tinted low energy bulbs suitable for replacing standard bayonet fitting bulbs. There seem to be only standard or warm white currently available.

I don't know about the little bayonet type bulbs, but WalMart now sells some nice flourescent bulbs that come in a number of neat colors, including one that's basically a black light; and they fit standard light sockets.

many retailers are now starting to carry the compact flourescant bulbs you are talking about. many of the home improvement stores such as Aces, Home Depot, or Lowes all sell the new efficient lights, but even retailers like wal-mart and target are starting to carry them. i would just check in the lighting department of your local store and see if they stock them. many people say that the mercury in the bulbs is bad and going to leak out of landfills into the water system, but that is untrue, there are recycling places for the light bulbs, and they also last 12 times longer than conventional bulbs and cut down on the waste and pollution. goodluck finding your new lights.
