A stent is a small metal mesh tube that acts as a scaffold to provide support inside your coronary artery. A balloon catheter, placed over a guide wire, is used to insert the stent into the narrowed coronary artery. Once in place, the balloon tip is inflated and the stent expands to the size of the artery and holds it open. The balloon is then deflated and removed while the stent stays in place permanently. Over a several-week period, your artery heals around the stent. Stents are commonly placed during interventional procedures such as angioplasty to help keep the coronary artery open. Some stents contain medicine and are designed to reduce the risk of reblockage (restenosis). The interventional doctor will determine if this type of stent is appropriate for your type of blockage.

Stent is a minute stainless steel spring inserted inside the artery to open up the blockage. It does not give guarantee that a new blockage will take place some where else. Go to google, click on images and type stent. You will come to know what is stent and how it is fixed. The best remedy would be take some ayurvedic treatment which will clear the blockage without any surgery. A stent is a small metal device used to hold something (usually something tubular) open.
Various different stents are used in medicine.
The one your Pop had was a stent to hold his coronary artery (one of the arteries of the heart) open.
It is usually made of some special metal mesh in a peculiar pattern that can be inserted along a very long narrow tube and then twisted so it springs open.
Have a look at the heart.health webpage - there are some good pictures.

A stent is a kind of tube that when inserted in the coronary arteries expands and pushes the walls of the artery and keeps it open to allow the blood reach the heart muscle. they come in various forms and some newer ones have drugs on them to prevent from reclosure of the artery.
They put stents during a cardiac catheterization;ie, they insert some other tubes into the heart vessles through the vessles of the leg and when they reached the part of oclusion of the artery they insert the stent.

A stent is a little tube that is put in the artery so the blood can flow through from where a blockage has occurred in the artery. There is a lot of information on the Internet. Try webmd.com, I use them alot. Ask your father's doctor or a cardiologist for the information, this is best answer or check with your local hospital, they should have libraries with medical books. My hospital has a library.
