What kind disease or illness can I contract if I have never been diagnosed with chickenpox in my life. I am 20 years old and everyone else in my family has had chickenpox but I haven't.

You can still get chickenpox as an adult if you are ever exposed to it. Chickenpox as an adult is much worse and more severe then if you would have got it when you were a child.

A person never really gets rid of chickenpox though, it just remains dormant in that persons body. Chickenpox is caused by the herpes simplex virus, which there is no cure for.

Also, in order to get shingles you have to have had chickenpox already. Since you haven't had chickenpox then you won't get shingles. Shingles is basically chickenpox flaring up again. This usually only happens for much older people (like 60 years old) or sometimes people who are going through a lot of stress.

And, just because you have never had chickenpox doesn't make you more susceptible or more vulnerable to catching any other disease or STD. Not everyone gets chickenpox, you are just one of the lucky ones.

I hope that answered your question! Good luck!

I think you need to chill, and the last time I checked chicken pox was not a Sexually Transmitted Disease (in case you may not be familiar with the term STDs). If you have never had the chicken pox the worse that can happen to you, should you ever even get the chicken pox, is you have a severe case of it. I wouldn't worry because you go to the doctor, rest, drink plenty of water, and get better. As far as getting any other diseases not really likely. Even the most severe case of the chicken pox would only weaken your immune system at best, and later on may lead to worse flu cases with heavier symptoms that is extremely unlikely though. If you have never had the chicken pox chances of you even contracting it is quite unlikely. People in your case just have a great immune system, and obviously the vaccinations you recieved as a child worked for you.

well, shingles is similar to chickenpox - it's the same virus. I got it a while ago, it's a rash on 1 half of the body - really sore.

you only get shingles AFTER you were infected by chicken pox, they have almost the same virus but you dont get shingles before chicken pox.
with chicken pox in adulthood, one usually gets more severe maculo-papular-vesicular rashes - itchy red, blisters that start from the trunk spreading outward. some adults have it to the point that you cant recognize them due to their facial rashes.
shingles have unilateral rashes (one side only affected) and are painful.
