Yes, you had a minor heart attack, but because there was a definite cause, and survived, you've nothing to worry about.
It's when you have a heart attack and the cause is unknown that it's a source of concern.
You're OK. You'll live to a ripe old age and see your great-grandchildren playing, so relax, chill out, and enjoy the rest of your long life.
You've been given a second chance, -sieze it and be thankful.
It was the doctors' fault you bled, and not yours.
Want a laugh? If you'd died, you could have sued and won $$millions!
Wish you a long and happy life from here on in.

Sounds like you had a rough time, hope you are recovering OK and can make sense of it all eventually.

The exact level considered 'normal' may also vary between labs- the lab in my hospital quotes levels of <0.14 as normal, but one of the other people giving an answer quotes <0.4 (I think). This difference arises firstly because there are two types of troponin that can be measured (troponin T & I, but most hospitals use I) and secondly because different labs may use different methods / units of measurement. I would therefore suggest that you ask a doctor of your choice (either your GP or a cardiologist) to go through the blood results and look at any ECGs with you (or EKGs if you're on the other side of the Atlantic!) in order to establish whether you had a heart attack. It isn't fair to say whether you definitely have or haven't had a heart attack from what you've described, but it certainly is high on the agenda.

If you have had a heart attack I don't think you should assume that you will live to a ripe old age because 'the cause is known'- this advice is negligent. Whilst anaemia from your blood loss and increased demand placed on your heart may have contributed to any potential heart attack you may have sustained, you cannot assume that coronary artery disease (narrowed arteries) was not also a contributor. If you are found to have had a heart attack you may need further investigations/ treatment.

Good luck and be careful which .com advice you follow (arguably including this advice!)

It appears that yes you have had a heart attack. Troponin levels should generlally be <.04 and yours was obviously greater. The fact that your Troponin levels continued to rise for a time means that your heart attack was continuing to evolve.

Evaluation of the extent of cardiac damage can be done by examining your EKG, Echocardiogram (and/or ultrasound). This NEEDS to be done as you have probably suffered from some cardiac tissue death and if the area of your heart is, say, your LEFT VENTRICLE that you would probably have some substantial problems later on.

The simple fact that you survived only means that you survived. You have had cardiac tissue damage and possibly cell death. Have your doctor/cardiologist fully evaluate your heart.

Be well!!

I'm sorry, but that last answer has got to be the most retarded thing I have ever read. "If you died, you could have sued"? That makes no sense.

Anyway, blood loss can cause a heart attack. A rise in troponin usually indicates heart damage, so it is likely that you had some sort of cardiac event. It seems that you are okay now, but I would consult your physician to see if further treatment is necessary.

Surgery alone can cause a change in Troponin levels. Seek medical attention from a cardiologist to get a definitive diagnosis

The result depends on your labs reference range, usually this is printed with the result. Alone they mean nothing and need to be used in conjunction with clinical signs and other tests ECG's etc.
