Well, lots of things can be recycled, but you are asking for unique recyclables... how about human body parts. Each year hundreds and thousands end up dying while waiting for a transplant. Other things to recycle, metals in cans, appliances, wiring, etc; clothes, papers, etc etc... Hope this is unique enough for you. :)

You wanted unique. How about this?
Start preschoolers on the right track. Have them bring in an orange juice carton. Cut the top off and use the bottom for a planter.(add dirt, flowers, water)
Now, here is the unique part, When they bring in the cartons, have them also bring in the plastic loops that are pulled out to open the carton.
Push the top of the loop inside of the hole in the loop. Look at the side that the loop now sticks out over. It is a halo. Draw a simple face with a marker and you have the head of an angel.
A cone shape made from a recycled piece of paper (writing or typing on the inside of the cone) Trim the bottom so it is proportional to the head.
Glitter, paint, whatever you like the cone and you have a Christmas craft.
If your school doesn't celebrate Christmas, glue some scrap lace on the top of the ring and you have a bride. Decorate with scraps of lace or glitter.
(In a Catholic School this could also be a first communion doll).

Any and all electronics - over 400,000 tons are created daily and 1/3 of that weight is obsolete every hour. Batteries are all recyclable, as are fabrics, plastics, rubber, tin, aluminum, paper, wood, etc. You don't have to use a center in many cases you can recycle by donating to a community outreach or a local white elephant sale. If you have leftover house paint or old appliances that still work you could see if the local community services or Habitat for Humanity could use them. Good Luck!

My favorite thing to recycle is other people's stuff. I love going to garage sales and finding things that can be reused like pictures, furniture and clothes. My favorite thing is finding an item that can be used as something else. For example, I have a couple of old chairs that are now neat planters in the yard.

A company in little Harlan, Indiana makes playground surfaces out of old tires. It's safer than cement, and helps recycle tires, which are too often piled up until they catch fire. -RKO- 05/26/07

Phones, ink cartridges (refilling or bringing to recycling centers), turning old clothes into cleaning rags, turning wood into mulch, reusing plastic bags, old computers, composting food for gardens.... almost anything can be recycled. =)
