Costochondritis can be mistaken for cardiac pain, It is very common amongst smokers, and anti-inflammatory is good, like Diclofenac (NSAIDs) 1BD & physiotherapy & in rare cases Inj. of Kenacort(cortisone) is given at the local site.

A friend of mine has it...
Costochondritis usually goes away on its own. Try an anti-inflammatory medicine to relieve the pain. Heat/Cold compresses may also help.
