Cold sores are a form of herpes as well. So kissing or oral sex (if someone has a cold sore) will also spread to the person receving it. Also, if genitals are rubbing against eachother with clothes off, and there is no penetration but one person has herpes, it can still be passed on.
Also know that condoms dont always protect one from the virus.
