Watching tv can't give you diabetes.
Having a weight problem can contribute to diabetes and watching tv may contribute to a weight problem but much more of it is genetics.

No. that statement is false. Watching tv cannot give you diabetes. Diabetes is caused when your body can no longer produce insulin. Whoever came up with that story is a nutcase. I know about the disease from experience. The type 2 diabetes is commonly found in obese or overweight people. Maybe it's possible they did watch too much tv. But it absolutely cannot cause type 1 diabetes which i am familiar with.

if you read the article carefully you will see that watching
tv is only a symptom of a life style that can lead to developing
the disorder. i watch very little tv, but am overweight and
have hobbies that are done sitting quietly in a chair. i read,
knit, crochet, do counted cross stitch, and some other
crafts. all of them are indicative of a sedentary life style.
now, i also walk every day. the condition is under control
without medication, but i will always be diabetic. and i
still do not watch much tv.

It's the fact that people are watching too much TV and not getting enough exercise. Not the actual act of watching TV itself. A sedentary lifestyle causes weight gain....obesity can cause diabetes among other medical conditions.

That's a stretch. What causes type 2 diabetes is being overweight. So you can stretch that to say if you sit on your backside and watch TV while stuffing your face, yea you could get diabetes. Is the cause the TV, hardly. You could make the same case that Yahoo or AOL causes diabetes.
It's like those people who sue McDonalds for being overweight. McDonalds didn't make them eat all those french fries and milk shakes.
There's no free lunch on this one. You can't sue NBC cause you have diabetes or because your overweight.

It's not from watching TV it's from not doing anything but sitting there and watching TV. You'd get the same results if you tested people that did nothing but sit in a chair all day staring off into space! It's from not being active, not from TV!

That is an interesting question. Lack of activity is definitely a contributor to type II diabetes.

if you sit in front of the TV all day and eat lots of things that are bad for you then it could increase the chances but to be honest what about people that are paralysed and can't move about not all of them are diabetic so i think it is a load of rubbish myself
