I don't know where Mr. Wizard got his information but he might want to research things before he gets on his soap box.

Price check Chantix before you fill the prescription. My insurance covered it so I only had to pay $50/mo but regular price at most pharmacies is about $120.00 (Costco's pharmacy is rumored to be a little cheaper and you don't need a membership to fill a prescription there). They tried to get it to price out at $3/day which is also the average price of a pack of cigarettes (or cheaper depending on where you live).

As to how well Chantix works, I took 60 days worth of Chantix between October and December of last year. Towards the end I only took it only when I thought about smoking.

Chantix does a great job at eliminating the physical cravings of smoking. It doesn't do a thing for the behavioral side so you do really need to WANT to quit.

There are side effects to taking Chantix. In the beginning I'd get an upset stomach whenever I took Chantix and again every time I'd smoke. After my body got used to the full dose (and I quit smoking) the upset stomach went away. Weird dreams were frequent (normally I don't remember dreams but Chantix changed that). The dream issue continued through the entire time I took Chantix.

Beyond that, all is great! I haven't smoked since October. Good luck quitting!

Let me just say so far it is working for me.I have tried other products, gum, patches ,did not like the idea that even though I was not smoking with a patch on I was still getting the nicotine that was keeping me hooked, wellbutrin worked some but did not make me quit.I have tried before and for some reason could never make it past two weeks without smoking.I am now working on week four with just half the dose as I feel the whole dose was just to much for me.Half a pill in the am and the other half in the pm is now what I take.On that dose I do have a few more cravings but am still winning the battle half on my own free will which I like that idea.Sometimes I think about smoking and I remember how when I smoked for the first week while taking the Chantix I did not get any of the pleasure from it so I just dont smoke.

Well, yea! That,s the idea behind ALL stop smoking aids. Chantix is just a different approach. It is supposed to make smoking less enjoyable by attaching to certain receptors in the brain. This stops the up take of the chemicals that create the pleasure of smoking.

Here is a link that explains Chantix:

I quit smoking with Chantix. I smoked about a pack a day for 15 years. I LOVED to smoke. I have tried several methods of quiting. To name a few: cold turkey, wellbutrin, the patch, the lozenge, the gum, hypnotism.

With Chantix you are supposed to continue to smoke and choose a quit date a week after you start taking it. i didn't quit a week after taking it. I think it was about 11 days after.

It's not a magical pill that makes you quit smoking. You still really want to quit for yourself. I still feel strong urges to smoke. But, unlike the other times I quit smoking, I don't feel the urge to smoke so strong that I give up and go buy some cigarettes.

I've been smoke free for about 2 months now. (i didn't even make it a few weeks with the other methods).

If you don't live in the states you only get a limited amount of shows. Some shows are not even allowed in other countries due to "standards" that must be met before that country feels comfortable airing another country's shows. The shows that we have in the states deal with a lot of drugs and alcohol. The idea of drinking in the red cups is to give an illusion that they are drinking but of course if they are filming it is illegal to drink an alcoholic beverage on the set. And here there is that rule of not being able to drink legally until you are 21. As for the smoking a lot of the time when the husband or wife sneaks out to get a smoke that is another illusion that the other spouse does not approve of smoking. The spouse that is smoking is just trying to get out of being yelled out by the spouse that doesn't smoke. However, he have many shows that deal with real life and drugs such as intervention and true life. There are more i just can't think of them right now haha. We have a lot of druggies in the states though. There's nothing hush hush about it here.

This stuff is a miracle drug, for sure. Chantix was working for me by the fourth dose! I haven't smoked for 5 1/2 weeks. Cravings are weak and fleeting.
As for cost, the price for a month's worth is just about what a 1 pack-per-day smoker spends on cigarettes for a month, WITHOUT health insurance. Medicare Part D pays 60%. You will probably be prescribed refills, but you won't need them, because by the end of the month, you will be a non-smoker.

My boyfriends stepmom used it and it worked really good for her. It made her have really weird dreams though. She used Chantix along with the nicotine inhaler and stopped smoking completely, and she smoked almost 2 packs a day!

May one entertain the thought that penal institutions have very good reasons for inmates to quit smoking?
Cigarettes are a commodity in prison and there are shenanigans related to their politics, trade and distribution.
Jail and prisons are obligated to treat inmates who are ill. It is logical that the fewer the carcinogens, the fewer dollars needed for inmate medical care.
Load 'em all up on Chantix for a month-- the guards, too. It'll be far cheaper in the long run.

At Pfizer's hefty $200 cold for each uninsured "unit" (one month's supply), let's say their R & D--along with user testimony--assures Chantix is impressive in efforts to help smokers "kick the habit".

Bottom line: Chantix is NOT a cure for nicotine addiction....but it IS solid proof Pfizer either has or is very very close to the discovery of a total nicotine addiction cure.

Insurance companies all over are pulling away from client co-pay assistance, making Chantix much harder to buy. Given Chantix's stratospheric pricer per 'unit', it's safe to assume a nicotine addiction cure will likely be affordable only to the rich.....while the poor, like you and me, die.

Pfizer's bottom line: "You are a nicotine addict--who will pay for our product at OUR PRICE gladly because of your addiction."

Pfizer also has plans to contractually sell their product to state penal corrections departments nation-wide. Taxpayers will pay for Chantix, so penniless prison inmates can enjoy it.
