If it was thawed under refrig then yes one time only. If there was any chance that it spent time at room temp then I would not risk it. Give it a smell!

While working at a restaurant, the health department explained it quite well. If the chicken (or other meat for that matter) has been handled and stored properly while out of the freezer, it can be refrozen with no problem.

I was always told never to cook & eat a chicken that thawed then refrozen unless it had been cooked before refreezing.!

I would not eat the chicken. Meats begin to become contaminated at temperatures above 40 F, and below 155 F. In between those two temps is considered the danger zone. I highly recomend that you waste the chicken, even with the high price! :)

Rule of thumb is that once you thaw raw chicken you should not refreeze until after cooked.

as quickly as something frozen has been defrosted/thawed you could not refreeze it. as quickly as nutrients has defrosted/thawed micro organism will start to reproduce. those micro organism could routinely be killed throughout the cooking technique, yet whilst the nutrients is refrozen that's going to nonetheless incorporate the micro organism.

If it is slimmy and or has a smell play it safe and toss it. But for the most part if it never got to room temp it should be fine.

Sure. It may not taste as fresh as it would if you had just frozened it and then cooked it, but it is still edible.
Enjoy! And I hope I helped.
