My neighbor came back from a fishing trip the other day and I noticed he had caught over his limit (I went online and read about limits, etc.) and I also noticed he had caught a large mud turtle (you have to have a special license to catch turtle). Should I contact the authorities about him?

Considering you don't know the whole situation, I don't think it's worth the hassle.

1) How do you know he didn't go fishing with a buddy who has a license to catch the same amount of fish but doesn't want to eat it - the friend just fishes for sport so he gives the fish to the neighbor who will eat them so they don't go to waste? He may have bought some off of other guys at the lake cause he wants to have a big fish fry with some friends.

2) Do you know that he doesn't have the turtle license or that he even caught the turtle? If you hit an animal with your car (in most states) you can legally keep the dead animal without having to have a permit.

Basically, unless the fish and game catch him in the act of catching the turtle or the fish past his limit, they can't really do anything about it. They can't prove he caught even one of those fish or the turtle just because he has them in his posession. Unless posession of the extra fish and the turtle is illegal in your area, he's not breaking any laws right now.

Yes. People always get away with breaking the law because good people hesitate to do something about it. By the way, the fish and game departments in most states are very harsh on poachers (and that is what your neighbor is if he caught the turtle). Report him.

Not sure if this in an appropriate question for this section. You should do what you feel comfortable doing and based on whether you have actual proof of any problem.

The amazing thing about this post is the negative responses. People seem to think breaking the law is perfectly fine. No wonder the country/world is going downhill.

Do you have nothing better to do! Before you contact the authorities why not consider how many flies you have murdered whilst driving your car recently!

I really cant beleive someone like you exists, do you have nothing better to do than preach about everything that is meat! And worst of all i can well imagine you are jus some towny who thinks they know what they are talking about when really ur just talking s**t!

If i see anyone swatting a fly today i will let you know imediatly

its too late about the fish-and it is possible they were different kinds of fish, or he was givin some from a fishing buddy who didnt want them. If your sure he has done wrong-you can call up the game warden office dont give them your name and ask about the situation. the why of the mud turtle too?

game wardens patrol fishing areas-and give out tickets for going over the limit,
they would need a search warant to go in his home.

are there other issues involved?

prayin for you to be comfortable with your neighbors and to do what is reasonable

and you could share what changes hearts and lives with these neighbors in Jesus amazing grace, that saved a wretch like me=John 3 repented and let Jesus into my heart door to become my best friend, amen

thanks

If you need to ask this question, then why did you waste your time doing all that research?
If I believe someone has done some harm, and authority services agree with me, I wouldn't hesitate in reporting them, after I had first checked details with the person concerned.

If your neighbour really has broken the law then yes you should I guess.

I'm not sure how this is a vegetarian and vegan question though-doesn't this belong in law enforcement or something?

You most certainly should report your neighbour but ONLY if you can, hand on heart, state that you never, ever, put a foot wrong, break even the smallest law and are completely without fault in this and every other aspect of your life.
Put another way "let he who is without sin, cast the first stone".

well i am sorry but how do you know he doesn't have that license??????
i'm in canada and we have several different types of licenses i have the conservation one so i have a small limit on mine but my brother has a different one and he is allowed to keep twice the amount that i am...
so before you do anything drastic you should get the facts
who knows he could very well be within his limit
