Talked to my ex on the phone this morning and he was having trouble breathing and talking, I told him to go to the hospital this morning but he didn't go apparently...he told my son on the phone this evening around 6:30 that he feels like there is a heavy weight on his chest and he is still short of breath.

Your ex needs to go the the hospital NOW. If there's any aspirin in the house give him some on the way. A heart attack is when blood vessels supplying part of the heart muscle get blocked/narrowed leading eventually to death of the heart muscle and nerves. The longer he waits, the worse the outcome. There is just absolutely no justification to take the risk. It sounds like a heart attack to me.... if I'm wrong then great, but really, MUCH better to be safe than sorry. Seriously, men can be so stubborn.

A heart attack (myocardial infarction or MI) results from either one of the vessels that take blood to the heart (coronary veins & arteries) 1. spasming closed (less likely) or more commonly getting plugged up with a fatty plaque. When this happens the heart muscle gets literally starved for oxygen & dies and can no longer contract efficiently. But, the vessel may only be a percentage occluded and small amounts of blood still get through leading to heaviness in the chest, SOB (shortness of breath, etc.). So he could be experiencing a "pre-heart attack--or the WARNING (angina) signs of an impending MI.
He may be getting warned, in which case he is lucky--many do not get such a warning. The signs of a heart attack are: 1. SOB 2. chest pain or pressure 3. may radiate to jaw, arm or back. 4. nausea/vomiting 5. dizziness, light headedness, 6. increasing symptoms with exercise, not relieved with rest 7. sweatiness 8. or none at all. Risks include: being male, no exercise, family history, over weight, smoking, being in denial. SO, I personally would rather have him go to the ER to get checked out and it be nothing to have him "code blue" and have a much worse outcome.......and if he can...have him take a baby aspirin now.

The heart attack was this morning and yes, the pain can last all day. Hope he tat least took some asperin to thin the blood if he didn't go to the ER. My father in law had the same thing happen and he was TAKEN to the ER because he wouldn't go on his own. The doc was able to get him on blood thinners and do 4 stints. He said he would have died in another few hours without the ER trip. Your husband needs to go to the ER before it is too late. Make your son carry him there NOW if y'all want him to live!

It could be anything.
Angina, or chest pain caused by the constriction of blood vessels , could be brought on by activity.
A heart attack could cause those symptoms all day.
Regardless of what causes it, it needs to be dealt with.
I suggest he take aspirin (4-5 baby aspirins) or a 325 mg. pill, and head to the emergency room. Or at least call his clinic to talk to a nurse/doctor.
If this is a heart attack, the longer he waits the more damage is done to the heart, and it can be irreversible damage.

Sounds as though it could be an anxiety attack, I would have him go to a prompt care facility. If it is a heart attack or some sort of valve malfunction, he should be treated as soon as possible. Have him take an aspirin. If he smokes tell him to stop till the symptoms go away, and no caffeine. I sure hope he decides to go get checked, we only have one heart!

I agree with Yoda. Those symptoms are not to be taken lightly. Blood tests will reveal if a heart attack took place and there maybe a blockage due to cardiovascular disease. Treat it as urgent, not many have that luxury of early warning. Good Luck, may all be ok.

YES!!!! It's possible. Sometimes people have heart attacks and don't even know it was a heart attack, until they visit their doctor a month later. Don't take him lightly.

It sounds like angina. He needs to go get it checked out. Many medications can help, including blood pressure medications and digoxin.
