normally once iron is taken into the body it does not get removed .. there is no mechanism in the body which could break down iron, it is stored in the blood and very tiny amounts can be released in sweat however, most of it stays in blood ..

if you have high iron levels, this can be posionious .. and normally u'll be prescribed with drugs which bind to iron and remove them through urine ..

am not sure what ur doctor/pathologist told u but i would avoid iron rich foods for some time .. usually most cases are people complaining about low iron levels not so many with high levels ..

here is some possible causes of high iron levels in blood:
1) sediroblastic anaemia
2)excessive alcohol intake
3) liver problems (due to excessive alcohol)
4) heridetary (genetic disorders)
5) as i mentioned dietary intake (too much iron in food)

speak to ur doctor see what caused the levels to rise .. it might be just due to dietary intake.

High iron stores is something to take seriously. It can cause liver damage, diabetes, and heart disease, to name onlly a few complications.

The way to lower your iron stores is to have blood drawn, usually twice a month, until the iron stores are down to an acceptable level. After that, you have your iron levels monitored and have additional phlebotomies done as needed.

If you cannot get phebotomies, there are drugs that will lower your iron load, however, they are quite expensive--desferal and exjade

Did it say that it was "too high"? I don't think it's a bad thing, but I'm not sure. I've always had high iron, and I gave blood and the red cross was like "yeah, you have a lot of iron-that's good blood...." No one's ever said that it was too much to me.
