April -4 -07 I was 20 miles out on a cave/camping trip and thought - MONEY would be a good thing to have more of. I turned around (kicked myself) went home and got some.
Plastic trash bags for some extra trash you find. Pin and paper. I bet someone In your family would like a letter.

Are you tent camping or camping in a trailer?
Regardless of how you're camping there are definite things you need to take:
Flashlight
Bug Repellant (OFF Deep Woods)
Diaper Wipes (for cleaning hands)
Gloves (for gathering wood)
Long sleeved shirts/pants
Travel size toothpaste/toothbrush
Citronella candles to keep mosquitos away
sleeping bags (tent)
pillow
soap
lawn chairs/chairs
hat/bandanna (you don't want ticks)
Cooking supplies (pans,plates,silverware,cups)
charcoal
lighter fluid
matches/lighter
food (bread,pb & j, cereal, trail mix)
ice
cooler
first aid kit
fishing liscense/bait/tackle if fishing
book/puzzles/games
Can't think of anything else right now...

Flashlight, matches, and water. You never know about the availability or quality of water, and the other two are self explanatory. Hope you have fun,I have been camping for over 25 years and love it.

Keep it simple follow a simple rule you are going to have fun. bottle water a case 2 coolers 1 for food 1 for drinks a large tarp in case it rains. it will keep every thing dry and no you don't have to do it fancy just throw it over every thing. a small shovel us it to put dirt on corners hold down tarp also use it as a hammer for tent stakes. bring a grill use wood available but also have charcoal lighter fuel [2] and lighter. matches suck. luck

All of the previous answers were great! But one thing they all forgot.........general medications. Like tylenol or aspirin, neosporin, bandages. And if you take any prescription meds, make sure they go with you! Those should be first in the backpack!

Go onto Coleman's website & print the checklist they provide,.
You won't forget anything if you follow the list.
You don't have to bring it all, but you won't miss anything.
Have fun.

Probably...there always is! And it's different every time.
Just relax, and have fun with the "roughing it" part...if you're missing something, oh well...you'll live through it, and enjoy yourself anyway!
