Get some nice pillow shams and cover a couple of pillows and staple them to the wall as a headboard, this will prevent any accidents should you bump your head in the middle of the night, you did say 40 right? LOL
Get some styrofoam blocks and shape them as a headboard, then insert artificial flowers in it or around it.
Install a curtain rod where the headboard goes, then buy or make some cool drapes, that way you can change it every season. Place a Vine around it.

Why don't you just paint one directly on the wall. Not quite as big a job to do this. You said you were in your 40's but I didn't get whether that meant that you wanted a mature theme for the headboard or that you couldn't do anything too major for the build.

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/WoodworkingProjects
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.

At one time I thought about building my own headboard, but gave up on the idea after finding out that you can buy all kinds of nice ones out there and save a lot of work, carrying heavy wood to the car and strapping it on, having people cut the wood for you, dragging it into the house, etc.
If you go to places where there is inexpensive furniture you can get a nice plain or decorated (recessed marks in the wood) wood or cheap wood headboard. Or, you can buy one with a shelf where you can put books and a lamp and which would extend over two two-drawered what looks like file cabinets in a maple or dark wood. Really nice for storage.

In the event that you need to discover pleasant thoughts for woodworking i can propose you to check a website ( ( woodworkingplans.kyma.info ) ) It's perfect in the event that you are simply starting out or in case you're a prepared carpenter. It has thousands and thousands of woodworking arrangements and you have a CAD/DWG software to view and alter the arrangements. You have regulated instructions with photographs and excellent blueprints and schematics. On the off chance that you are a beginner this is the simplest approach to start your woodworking projects, and on the off chance that you already have experience you can at any rate discover a ton of interesting thoughts!
