Last year around this time (April) I was diagnosed with HPV from an abnormal pap. I had scraping of my cervix done and it was negative for cancerous cells. This year I had my pap early (in February) and it was normal. Is my HPV gone?

well maybe. and people shouldnt right off bat say it goes dormant. docs dont know if itis cured or dormant. so how could anyone else. but like the other one person said, you have to have 3 paps in a row normal. so good luck. it does happen. but if your immune system falls, signs could show up again. abnormal paps. so its either your immune system is holding it back so the bad cells dont show any hpv or it is gone. but no one can really tell.

Sounds like somebody botched up your pap smear. You need to have 3 regular paps before you are declared "normal." Then, I think it's one every 5-6 years depending on your age and family history. I don't know that you ever had anything to be "cured" of in the first place. If you are concerned, you can ask your doctor about that shot that just came out that blocks many of the HPV viruses.

you need to check for hpv to know that, the pap alone does not tell whether or not the infection has cleared
