Same thing happen to me. The doc can't really tell if that was the old infection or new one. Likely, 6 months later, it is the same infection, but the bacteria were almost all killed until the survivors all gang up on you. I took Cipro the first time, made me sick! Second, bactrium for 3 days. Worked well. The second time I was bleeding badly into my urine. If it happens again you may want to see a urologist. The doc I went to told me to avoid baths and use feminine wash on private parts. Always pee after sex and wash off, and don't wear tight underwear or pants.

Other than being uncomfortable to downright painful for you, most likely nothing.

In extremely rare cases, an untreated UTI can get back up into the bladder and cause a more serious infection of the bladder or the soft tissue. However, this is rare. Even more rare, it can back up into the bladder and then into the kidneys and sometimes the blood stream.

While this is EXTREMELY rare - it does happen and when it does, it can lead to very serious infections (read as in the hospital with IV antibiotics to cure it). That is why its best to address the infection when its just a UTI.

I'm surprised you didn't have any pain / discomfort for the whole 6 months. Maybe you did, if so, I feel bad for you - thats no fun.

As for why you got a UTI or may have a recurrence - anyone's guess? It does have something to do with personal hygeine and some women who wear tight fitting clothes that don't breath can be at increased risk. Also, if you work out - change out of sweaty undergarments / wet swimwear ASAP when you are finished. This can also increase your chances of getting a UTI.

Some women just get them more than others - no ryme or reason.

If you are prescribed an antibiotic, be sure to take it EXACTLY as told and be certain to FINISH it all - even if you feel better of your symptoms go away before the course of drug is completed. That should help make sure your little friend doesn't return for a second round.

Hope this helps.

Most probably it is a re entry of the infection that causes this urinary tract infection off and on ! This again mostly is given by your sexual partner !Many time some bacterias in the male urethra behaves like a commansals means not creating infection but they are normal inhabitant of the site and they are opportunist !When they are delivered in the favorable environment they grow and play the mischief !So that is one and second you may be not keeping a good genital hygiene ! There may be fungal infection that might have given a upgrade infection ! Get culture and sensitivity test done and use proper antibiotic in proper doses to kill the causative organism!Ask your sex partner to use condom !and get his urine also treated ! What ever but you should get it cleared otherwise it may cause a serious harm later on at terminal stage of life ! Always YoursmE

Some women have recurrent UTI that is near impossible to get rid of. Worse, others have symptoms and problems that appear to be UTI, but are actually caused by other things. Ask your doctor to re-diagnose the problem. Have them run a full spectrum of tests to be sure that it's UTI, and not something more serious. There are home remedies you can try (there are powerful teas, pure cranberry juices, etc.), but these may not solve the problem either. This is definitely an area of medicine where a lot of doctors take the easy way out--i.e., throw one medicine at the problem and wait a few weeks to see if it gets better rather than actually trying carefully to figure out what is wrong. On the other hand, even with a careful doctor, it's very difficult to tell what's wrong. Again, try to insist that they figure out exactly what is causing the problem, be sure to take whatever they prescribe exactly the way they prescribe, and insist upon being retested after the prescription is done, and again a month or so later to see if the problem is really gone. Sometimes, recurrent UTI can be a symptom of other problems, so you doctor should treat this seriously if it isn't easily cured.

Yes and no. If you did not have any symptoms and you were healthy the whole time I would not stress yourself out about it......stress can of course make it worse. I had one that lasted over an year (1 1/2 yrs) before they got a handle on it. We figured out what was going on and took care of it. I have not had a problem since. I did have a kidney stone years later but it was unrelated and I do have a history of kidney stones in my family.

Honestly, just listen to your current doctor. Take your medication as prescribed. For good UT health there are lots of good herbal teas and of course there is cranberry juice.

You need to stay on top of this - I am not telling you to just blow it off but do not worry about it. You are doing the right thing and are taking care of it. Just start adding the tea and the cranberry juice into your life during this time as well. You body could always use a little bit more help during this time.

When treated promptly and properly, UTIs rarely lead to complications. But if they are left untreated, a lower urinary tract infection can become something more serious than a set of uncomfortable symptoms.

Untreated UTIs can lead to potentially life-threatening complications, such as acute or chronic pyelonephritis, which could permanently damage your kidneys. Young children and older adults are at the greatest risk of kidney damage due to UTIs because their symptoms are often overlooked or mistaken for other conditions. Women who have UTIs while pregnant may also have an increased risk of delivering low birth weight or premature infants (Milton S. Hershey Medical Center College of Medicine, 2007).

Make an appointment with your doctor right away. When making the appointment explain to them that this condition is over 6 months old.

Cranberry juice cleans the urinary tract very well. If I find that I have a UTI I drink cranberry juice to clear it up. At this stage you probably need antibiotics.

I highly doubt it is the same infection If it was you would be in some serious hurt.

UTI's can occur frequently in certain people. If left untreated the can develop into bladder infections and eventually sepsis. Again you would know that.

If you are prone to UTI's there are things you can do like take cranberry pills, wear cotton undies (no thongs) and make sure you wipe front to back.

Again I wouldn't be concerned. An untreated UTI that turns into a major damaging infection you would have known. As in pain so bad you'd cry and a very high fever. I'm sure you are fine.

Why didn't you go back for a follow up urinalysis? Thats customary to make sure the infection is gone. Sometimes even you are reinfected by the same source.

Why is this in respiratory diseases?

well the medication you did take at the time must have done something, or you would have had raging symptoms. No big deal, just see the doc for the right prescription to wipe it out the rest of the way.
