To be more specific, the bin says #1 and #2 plastics with necks. Sorry I didn't specify that in my question.

A #1 or #2 container with a "neck" has an opening (the neck) that is smaller than the container body.

Most plastic containers that have scew top openings fit this definition. Even #1 peanut butter jars were the neck is imperceptibly smaller that the container itself are acceptable.

Unacceptable plastic containers are generally the tub types such as those used for yogurt, margarine, Cool Whip, cottage cheese, etc.

It has to do with what is in the plastic. Some plastics are made from elements more easily broken down and reusable. It has more to do with the pete number in the triangle that the shape of the product. It just works out that plastic containers with necks all fit in to the easily recyclable category.

I think each city or community has their own recycling laws. We have to look at the bottom of our plastic containers and see what the PETE number is. Only certain ones are acceptable. Why don't you call the waste management people in your city and find out. Hope this helps.

They are probably recycling a specific type of bottle only, in your area. At least you know what you can, and can't put in there. Hopefully, they will bring more recycle bins for other recyclable items soon.

Well, sounds like others have beat me to this one. Now you just need to ask them to start doing other recycling as well.
