Honey is sugar, so if you are diabetic or trying to cut sugar out of your diet, it is not an alternative.
However, honey may have benefits for allergy sufferers and those suffering from illnesses as it contains many more nutrients in it than refined sugars. There are many health benifts of honey too. It contains anti-oxidents (the darker the honey the better) and has some medicinal proporties for helping the body heal faster from wounds and colds and it also aids and soothes sore throats. I use honey to treat my five year old grandson's low sugar readings.
Honey as a substitute for sugar is not a great idea. Your still getting more sugar which is something that unless your getting a low reading you should not have.
Example Texas Children's Hospital wants his levels to be between 80 and 150 (he's Type 1), where as my doctor wants mine to be 70 to 120. (I'm type 2).
I have tried the artificial sweeteners on him and believe it or not, When I sweeten his food and drink items with Equal he argues that I am giving him "The Real Stuff".
You can find out a lot of information for diabetes @ www.diabetes.org.
I tried the artificial sweeteners on him

Honey is liquid sugar. It gets into the blood stream faster than sugar. It raises blood sugar faster than sugar.
There are no health reasons to use honey. If you choose to use honey , just count the carbs and add it into your daily meal plan.
I choose NOT to drink my carbs.
As for healing a sore throat, try a sugar free ice pop.

Honey has about the same amount of carbs as sugar but I think it is metabolized more slowly. If that is true it is slightly more healthy than sugar. The artificial sweeteners are much better.

No, it is still pure carbohydrate, which diabetics should use very sparingly, so NO there is not benefit of honey over sugar for diabetics.

It is a little better, and contains at least some nutrients, but minimise its consumption. See www.mercola.com
