It's possible you got HPV from your recent partner or the partner you had 3 years ago.

I have personally had HPV for 6+ years. I didn't develop genital warts from my HPV till about a year ago. It took me 5 years to develop warts from my HPV. It can take some people a LONG time to develop warts from their HPV.

Also, warts can, and do go away. Someone said they never go away and that's not true. There is no cure for the virus that causes warts (HPV), but genital warts are very treatable.

Good luck!

You become colonizes with the HPV virus and warts can appear at any time. From weeks after infection to many months later. Its very unpredictable.

"When symptoms do develop, they usually occur 2 to 3 months after infection. However, they may develop from 3 weeks to many years after infection." webmd.com

I guess it's impossible to know when you first got infected, but you need to get treated as soon as possible now!

Genital warts do not go away. You simply had several years with no outbreaks. You did not get them from you recent partner since you already had them before they just became active again. Be sure your partner knows you have them so they can get tested to be sure they don't get it.

You're probably just having an outbreak but then again you could of got a new strain. It's probably best to talk to your partner, if you haven't already.
