I had my first cigarette in kindergarden. I remember it so well because I wish I wouldn't have done what I did.
My mom went downstairs to change laundry over and she left her smoke burning in the ashtray. Well monkey see monkey do, and when she went down stairs I tried her cigarette. I had my first pack of smokes when I was in grade 5, my friend and I smoked the whole 15 pack in my garage in like one hour. With out trying to place blame or point fingers, I'd still say that if my parents didn't smoke, I probably wouldn't have started because it would have been much harder to get.

I smoked my first cigarettes back when I was 14, I believe, and I remember they were an opened pack of Chesterfield Kings that I found outside somewhere, and it just seemed the "cool" thing you were supposed to be able to do, so, I did. Now, if you know the brand I'm referring to, that will definitely date me, but, let me also add that after a few (or more) years of smoking, a buddy of mine bet me 10 bucks that I couldn't quit smoking for a week, and back then, in the '70's, when I was in college, 10 bucks was a LOT of money, and I wanted to ask this girl out but didn't have any money, so, I took on the bet, AND WON!! And that was back in, well, it was in 1970 as I best remember. And I've been smoke free since then, except for a few packs in 1977, and then, no more for ever more. I just realized how much better I felt not smoking, and cigarettes began increasing in price, so . . ., c'est la vie!! God Bless you.

I was 14yrs old (>10 yrs ago) when I started smoking.I took it up,all because of peer pressure, and it looked so "cool"..Gradually,it wasn't about looking cool, but that I was simply addicted to it.It is three months now,and I haven't touched a ciggie.
