They beat me senseless. For which I now thank them, because they saved my life. I was experiencing temporary insanity and the beating I received straightened me out!

(i switched to being a vegetarian about a week ago) well just today one of my friends said... "so you only get cheese pizza now, since your a vegetarian... why dont you just get pepperoni, the animal is already dead, and its not like your making any difference at all... why are you a vegetarian, its stupid" and then i totally owned him in an argument. then he shut up for a little while. Most of my other friends are supportive of it though. When i first told my friends that i was a vegetarian, some were supportive, others said things like... "why are you doing that. thats dumb. its not like being a vegetarian actually helps anything. thats too hard, your stupid for trying. vegetarian food is gross" and stuff like that

thanks for the question, i liked it [=

my friends freaked out

some were ok with it, they didnt bother me that much

everyone was suprised even though they knew i had been contemplating it for awhile

my friends now just beg for my food if theres any meat in something i have to buy or pretty much any food really

my other friend teases me and never gets off my case about it

and some people i know always tease me too

this one guy i know is always saying "sarah youre vegetarian. you eat s***" or "sarah can i have your food?" when it doesnt have any meat in it, i say no, he says "your a freaking vegetarian!! you eat s***!! you dont need it!!!"

and then my favorite has to be when i was eating a salad and he called it a "s*** sandwich" and then asked for my green peppers i said no, and yeah that pretty much continued

dont be afraid to tell people. its your life. no matter how they react, go with what you think is right. their opinions don't matter. society makes it seem like you need everyone else's approval. you don't.

Some laughed. I STILL here, "Oh yah, she's going to break" EVERY SINGLE DAY even after a year.
Some got mad, and defended the meat eating lifestyle.
Some people didn't know. When I told some people I was a vegan, they actually pulled me aside, and said "Sweetie, don't you mean a VIRGIN?!" Which... made me laugh hysterically.
I usually got asked "Well, what do you eat? Still chicken, right?"
And some people kept rejustifying how proud they were.

My best friend had a hard time with my announcement. He said, "I cannot accept my Ellie not eating meat." I think he was more concerned that I wasn't getting enough protein, nutrients and the like. But of course, that was his *initial* reaction. I've educated him about the lifestyle, about my health and my other much tastier sources of everything I need and he's okay with that.
For a few months, he would always offer me meat from his plate when we would go out to eat. He thought he was being funny. After I told him that it's not funny; rather, it was quite insensitive, he stopped.
We're good now, though. We go out to eat like nobody's business and it's not an issue. He's even thinking about elminiating beef and pork from his diet! :-)

They were not really surprised. Supporting, most of them.
My parents are the only ones who have not accepted it... not that they would not have had time to, since I haven't eaten meat since 1990. They just refuse to accept it, and try to make me feel miserable every time I go to see them because I don't like dead animals on my plate.
All my uncles - and I have plenty of them - are vegetarians or vegans ...

When people find out I'm a vegetarian (still to this day), they ask me the most annoying questions like:
How do you get protein? You mean, you don't eat STEAK? Are you a tree hugger? Do you eat chicken? Do you eat fish? How can you stand it? blah blah blibitty blah blah blah!!!

My 4 best friends didn't mind at all
If you have true friends they won't care

However, one of my other friend's seemed almost offended. I didn't even tell her my other friend told her and she was like "My dad says Vegetarians are retarded!"

I don't know why she felt she had to tell me that...it's funny now though...(we don't eat meat, so we're retarded) hehe

Most were suprised, especially when I mention the word Vegan! But they are my friends and don't care about my diet. I try not to make a fuss, I am not going to heckle them when they choose to eat meat and I expect them not to hassle me about my tofu burger.
Keep your integrity, always.

snotty. they would ask all the typical aggravating questions (plants have feelings too, its just as bad. or you need meat for protein..) and they were not supportive. they would always forget that im vegan and they would make comments like (hey wanna all go to taco bell after school? "what about brooke" oh she can just have lettuce or something..) obviously they sucked. so i left them :) thank god school is almost out.

Don't plants have feelings too!

What do you eat for dinner, celery sticks?

Why?

Humans are omnivores, you are going against nature!

Why don't you drink milk?It doesn't hurt the animal.

Sigh...if only they knew.
