Ok, so i STUPIDLY had unprotected sex with someone who later told me she had HPV and was treated to remove some pre-cancer cells from her cervix. I am fine so far, its been a few months. I am with a new girl now and was wondering if because the other girl had pre-cancer cells, does that mean i am a carrier of a strain of HPV that definately causes cancer and will cause cancer in my new gf if she gets it, or is it different in every female? lil help?

If you contracted that particular kind of HPV from your last partner, it's possible for you to spread it to your new girlfriend. Certain kinds of HPV are responsible for certain problems, like cancer and warts. If your last partner had a kind that can cause cervical cancer, then it's definitely possible you have it now too. Of course it won't do anything to you, but if you pass it on to your new girlfriend it can possibly cause her to develop pre-cancerous cells or cervical cancer.

As long as she keeps on top of her yearly pap smears she should be just fine. Pap smears can detect any abnormal changes on the cervix like pre cancerous cells.

Also, has she ever looked into getting the new HPV vaccine called Gardasil? A woman can receive the vaccine whether she has had sex or not, or has HPV or not. The vaccine protects against 4 different kinds of HPV (two known to cause about 70% of cervical cancer and two known to cause about 90% of genital warts).

If a woman already has HPV it won't cure her of it, but it can possibly prevent her from contracting a kind of HPV she doesn't already have. Say, for example, a young girl only has one kind of HPV that the vaccine prevents. Theoretically, if she gets the vaccine, she'll be protected from contracting the other 3 kinds of HPV that the vaccine protects against.

Check out the link below for more information about the vaccine:

Good luck!

Yes, you probably have hpv and can pass it to your new gf. It's extremely contagious, it's a skin virus not blood born.

If the previous gf had some pre-cancer cells, she has the high-risk HPV. The low-risk HPV only causes warts and they are never cancerous.

However, only a small percentage of women with high risk HPV will develop anything from it. PAP tests will reveal any abnormalities and they can be resolved very quickly and easily. The chances of your new gf having HPV are pretty good already since 80% of sexually active people have it.

The best thing is for you and your new gf to get educated about HPV. The risks of cancer are pretty small but they are there. For men, as long as they are circumcised, the cancer risks are extremely small. There are ways of building up your immunity to keep the virus in check.

YES you now carry that strain of HPV. Your new gf needs to get the vaccine before you ever have sex with her... if you've already had sex she needs to get tested pronto. And even after she gets the vaccine, always ALWAYS use protection!

Use a condom. Obviously you don't want to have kids or anything, so use one. Protect you and her at the same time.
