Yes. Even when the lettuce looks good I still peel the outer leaves and toss them just for food safety purposes. You can re-crisp lettuce (and other veggies like scallions and celery) by snipping the root part and let them stand in very cold water. Shake them off really good and put them in a zip bag with some paper towels.

As long as it hasn't turned to mush, it just lost its crunch and is still edible. Try to eat is right away, as it will continue to wilt and some vitamins will be lost to oxidation. Keeping remainder in the crisper, and a damp paper towel wrapped around it may help too.

If the leaves at the center are still alive and haven't lysed yet, I'd think they'd be OK.
Of course, you could always eat them and find out. Then you'd know for next time.

They will freshen up in cold water, just make sure you shake out all the excess water if you haven't got a salad spinner.

wilted leaves of lettuce will not harm you in any way. they just may not taste quite as good and they don't look very good

No, I wouldn't cuz the lettuce n the middle has also been infected by the old Lettuce! So if I were u..I would toss all of it!
