I've got ectopic heartbeats. They are not serious, just more uncomfortable than anything. It is just an occasional irregularity in the heartbeat. I just get a bit shocked having palpatations when i least expect it.

Hi there.....hope this helps
What are ectopic beats?
Extra heartbeats, called 'ectopic beats', are very common. They may be come either from the atria, the upper chambers of the heart, or the ventricle, the lower chambers. Ectopic beats are not in themselves dangerous and do not damage the heart.
Who experiences ectopic beats?
Most people have occasional ectopic beats, even very fit people, but there is evidence to suggest that they may be more common in people who have heart disease.

Allergy medicine with psuedophedrine can cause problems. Also, this could be a symptom of emotional stress. And then there is certain vitamins if taken in excess can cause this= niacin. And then it could be a weight issue.Your normal blood pressure is a good sign. How is your cholesterol? If your health and weight is different than your Aunt's then do not let it stress you out.It is good that you went to the doc. The heart holter showed a healthy heart in respect to rhythm so just relax. You'll be okay!

I have suffered from ectopic beats and had problems with them. I was prescribed beta blockers, I had other problems as well. I would take Dr Franks advise. Thats what my Cardiologist said as well.

The majority are harmless and require no treatment, most people get some. Once you have become aware of them you feel every one. There are many people who have quite a lot, but are totally unaware. They are increased by smoking and caffeine.
If they are occurring frequently it is best to get them investigated, this is easily done using a 24 hour ECG monitor. Even if they are the usual harmless type, if they are frequent and disturbing, there are drugs that can suppress them, typically beta blockers are used.
