I am seeing an infertility specialist because i haven't been able to conceive anyways i went in may 18th because i have had continuous spotting since the second week of April, He did a transvaginal ultrasound which showed i have lots of follicles and my uterine lining is very thick((he diagnosed me with PCOS))..My last period was April 3rd to the 7th, right after stopping my period that's when the spotting started and still has not stopped..
Anyways he ordered a bunch of blood tests for me ((15 tubes filled of blood for testing)) and my doctor called me yesterday with some of the results it showed that i have a high level of testosterone((normal 40-60)mine was 151 and my estrogen levels were also high. I'm still waiting for insulin and glucose results..Other than that thyroid, prolactin,FSH,LH, CBC was normal...
Doctor wants to put me on Metformin but not until i get an HSG and a hysteroscopy, how many woman wih PCOS have taken this and did it help with conceiving?sucess rate??Please

I FOUND OUT I HAD PCOS WHEN I WAS 17. MY DOCTOR PUT ME ON METFORMIN ALSO IT GAVE ME A CONTINUS STOMACH ACHE FOR 2 WEEKS SO I STOPED IT. WOW HE WANTS TO DO A hysteroscopyTHIS EARLY ???? ITS BEEN 4 YEARS AND 2 PREGNANCYS SINCE MY DIAGNOSIS AND MY DOCTOR ONLY DID THE hysteroscopy BECAUSE IVE BEEN TAKING FERTILITY DRUGS GOR 3 YEARS.hysteroscopy IS A BIG AND PAINFUL STEP !!! FROM PERSONAL EXPERIANCE I WOULD SAY FIND A DOC THAT ISNT SO ANXIOUS TO DO THE hysteroscopy.WITH MY DOC I TOOK PREMARIN TO START MY PERIODS AND THEN ON DAYS 3-7 OF MY CYCLE I TOOK CLOMID WHICH INSURES U 2OVULATE(U ALSO KNOW EXACTLY WHEN U OVULATE) . BUT, HAVING DONE BOTH THE hysteroscopy AND THE CLOMID REGINE I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE CLOMID.

P.S. QUOTING MY DOCTOR"96% OF WOMAN CONCIEVE WITHIN THE FIRST 6 CYCLES WITH CLOMID"

MY FIRST PREGNANCY WAS 3 CYCLES AND MY SECOND WAS 2 CYCLES. GOOD LUCK TO YOU EITHER WAY AND DONT FREAK OUT PCOS IS TREATABLE.

I have had PCOS for many years. At the time I was diagnosed my insurance company would not pay for metformin. I take it now. Insulin resistance can lead to inablity to lose weight and unfortunately I did get the hair and all of the lovely markers of PCOS. Two of my daughters also have it.

Oh, btw, i erroneously thought that a hysterectomy would stop those symptoms.....nope.

Elevated testosterone is associated with PCOS and I had trouble conceiving. Finally, with a fertility specialist I did and that actually lined me out for a few years.
When I did become pregnant I became gestationally diabetic. After the babies I could not drop the weight and finally , taking metformin, I lost 17 pounds and didn't change a thing.

I am older now so its not so easy to keep that weight off.

From personal experience...I have had the darken around my neck since i was 12. I was able to lose weight drastically when I was 14 (i've always been a big girl), but it came back just as quick as it was lost. Between the age of 14-21 (how old I am now) I have gained a lot of weight..It is hard to lose it. I can lose 30 pounds and then I'm stuck. Finally last June I was diagnosed with PCOS and that answered a lot of questions I had. But for me the symptoms slowly came.

Go to www.inciid.com. There is a discussion area about PCOS. You can find a lot of women there to discuss it with.

Sorry you are going through this. I didn't have PCOS but I did deal with infertility. It is so hard. Hang in there. You are not alone.

My sister has PCOS and when I told her about metformin helping PCOS women conceive, she asked and her OB/Gyn put her on it, and about 1 1/2 yrs later has a newborn boy.

Get a second opinion.....

While I have not had PCOS... I have a friend who does.

She went to a fertility specialist in Michigan, And she successfully carried twins.

Afterwards, because of the way PCOS affected her weight she had gastric bypass surgery.

if you want to know the success rate for metformin, go to www.emedicine.com, and search for polycystic ovary syndrome. Metformin is good success and will need for your doctor to check your liver and kidney function via blood tests periodically while on this medication.
