The two plants are relatives, but one contains THC and the other does not (or just trace). They are planted and grown differently.
Hemp necklaces, backpacks, clothing, lotion, beauty products, soap, etc. are made from the hemp plant--not the marijuana plant. Hemp makes strong rope--but the government outlawed this use. The hemp used for the necklaces can be bought in the US--but cannot be grown in the US. Therefore, some hemp products that are very cheap to make cost a fortune--because the hemp has to be imported from other countries.

Hemp, is a member of the cannabis family but it is not the kind that will get you high. Hemp is a fibrous material that comes from the stalk of the cannabis plant. Marijuana ( cannabis sativa) differs from cannabis used for hemp, in that it contains significant amounts of THC tetrahydrocannibinol, the group of chemicals that create the "high" you get from smoking or ingesting the plant.

it is not the same plant.
The Marijuana grown for pot today ,is a short plant consisting mostly of heads ,very potent and there are very sophisticated Hybreds from parent plants from the Hymalayas and Hawaiie, this is called skunk
The hemp grown for fibre is a plant with only one head , mostly made up of tall stalks
MARIJUANA FIBRE
today Mariujana fibre is making a come back in Europe and Africa and produce designer pantalons and shirts for very high prices because the quality is superior than linnen.
these fibre plants do not produce drugs to speak of and are worthless for the drug market .it is the fibre that is the value.
and organically speaking it is an exelent plant to recuporate tired soils ,after cattle and corn field have practically destroyed the land, because the plant is deep rooted grows on most altitudes, and breaks open or loosens compacted soils as well as secreting nitrogen.
.the stalks can also be converted in to building material such as blocks
als can be used to make paper, jute bags ,ropes ,sails ,and a whole range of other things .
The war on Marijuana was mainly because this plant was competing with the synthetic fibre industry ,Jeans used to be made from hemp fibre

sort of. male hemp plants which are what is used to grow hemp for manufacturing and industrial uses does not contain THC or yield marijuana. but the female hemp plants do grow marijuana. the plants can be very hard to tell apart which is one of the major reasons hemp farming is so restricted in the united states. it would be easy for a farmer to hide marijuana plants among the other hemp plants in his crops so the government places restrictions on hemp growing to insure that they can manually inspect the crops and prevent people from growing drugs.

Hemp (from Old English hænep, see cannabis (etymology)) is the common name for plants belonging to the genus Cannabis, although the term is often used to refer only to Cannabis strains cultivated for industrial (non-drug) use. Licenses for hemp cultivation are issued in the European Union and Canada. In the United Kingdom, these licenses are issued by the Home Office under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. When grown for non-drug purposes hemp is often called industrial hemp, and a common product is fiber for use in a wide variety of products. Feral hemp or ditch weed is usually naturalized fiber or oilseed strains of Cannabis that have escaped from cultivation and are self-seeding.

Yes, the same plant that is used to make hemp is also the plant that produces marijuana. The stalk is the hemp part and has no mind altering THC in it and has many beneficial uses. It is a shame that there is a war on drugs since this plant can be used for bio fuel, food and textiles.

hemp and marijuana are not the same thing.
They both may come from the same plant.
Hemp = the cellulosic fibers of the cannabis plant (male, female, or morphidite) usally the males plants are used, because the female plants have commercial value in marijauna tolerant counties where many hemp products are made.
marijuana= the drug produced by processing the flowers or "buds" of the females plant of potent species cannabis plants.

Hemp is processed marijuana. They've taken out all the THC so that it isn't tempting people to smoke it in it's paper/rope/cloth/etc form.
