Many places fry hot dogs. The trick is to place them in a french fryer at about 350*-375*. The high heat will steam the dog from the inside out. It will only take about 1-2 min to cook them. If you are trying to do it in a frying pan you will not get as good a finished product.

Either you didn't do it right, used the wrong hot dogs, or perhaps you just don't like fried hot dogs.
Give this a try - start with all beef hot dogs like Hebrew National. I think a case-less dog is better, but either will do.
Take a pan and put just little oil in it, no more than a tablespoon and fry them like you would a sausage.
While I prefer boiled hot dogs with mustard, I like my fried hot dogs with catsup.
If you still don't care for them after that - then perhaps fired hot dogs are not for you.
Good Luck.

You need to use good hotdogs in a casing and split them in half not all the way so they make a like a hinge and fry them in butter. Butter is the only way to go. Same goes for your friend bolonga. Oils just don't work with hotdogs. I guarantee you will eat them like this all the time. Don't eat these if you are counting calories. What is even better is to throw your sourkraut in the frying pan when the hotdog is almost done. YUMMY!!!

In our parts, we make 'curly dogs' at the summer fair.
Take your hot dog, score it along one side, and then fry it. It'll cook into a circle shape. Place it on a hamburger bun, and fill the middle with chili and cheese, with a big slice of onion.
Eat with a big cup of beer, then ride the "Octopus" and watch it come up again ;-)

I think that they use the natural casing hot dogs, which get kind of crunchy when you fry them. I had one some time ago in a Jerry's Deli, and I prefer mine hot dogs grilled, there is something about that nutty, burn marks that gets me going.

split the hot dogs lengthwise and fry them in a skillet using peanut oil, place on bread with real mayonnaise and enjoy.

I saw them split open and fried in butter on FoodTV once... sure looked tasty, but I can't imagine the fat and calories!
