This is a company that recycles by mail (is a partner with Circuit City) and then gives you a certain amount of Circuit City credit in exchange for your Used Computer.

In searching, I also found that Staple is recycling.. you pay a fee of $10 per large item & they ship it to the recycle place

They also send you a box & pay for shipping

Hope that helps. I think it is great to recycle anything & everything... and with most items, there is a way to recycle, it is a matter of finding out how.

I am glad you asked (a star for you)

There is a new facility on Goose Island in Chicago, about 5 minutes from downtown, that accepts computers among other things. I have also seen special recycling centers that the city sets up periodically, usually in the spring, that accept hazardous household waste, batteries and computers. You might try looking at the city of Chicago website.

Unfortunately computers are extremely expensive to recycle and unless your state has a prepay plan (like California's SB50) you are not likely to be able to recycle for free however rest assured that your small payment now can save your state billions later in water and soil clean up to remove the lead, mercury, selenium and many other contaminates.
