Statins may reduce vasospasm, decrease inflammation, and have anti-arrhythmic effects in addition to lowering cholesterol. Small studies have shown benefits in patients taking statins before and after heart surgery and in heart failure patients with normal cholesterol.

Report unresolved diarrhea, unusual muscle cramping or weakness, changes in mood or memory, yellowing of skin or eyes, easy bruising or bleeding, or unusual fatigue to your doctor.

It is recommended that liver function tests (LFTs) be performed prior to and at 12 weeks following both the initiation of therapy and any elevation in dose, and periodically (eg, semiannually) thereafter.

I all so was taking Lipitor for cholesterol, but then my doctor switched me to Caduet. A combination Cholesterol and High Blood Pressure medication, for several years. I have not experienced any more than normal short term memory loss. My long term memory is just find. Now because of financial and no medical I can not afford to take that medication. and still see no change. I have also heard on the news within the last month or so that the cholesterol medications do not give appreciably any major cholesterol lowering capabilities to warrant the taking of these drugs. And it is not a life or death situation. They feel it is just a ruse by the pharmaceutical company's to push these drugs on people in order to make themselves more money. Diet and exercise will do the same thing and better. And you can keep the money in your pocketbook.

some of the statins give u protection from heart attacks and strokes, such as Lipitor. Others do not claim to do that. The downside is the possibility of liver damage, but blood tests can catch that in time if you go for routine blood work about every 3 months. You may aslo feel tired, and I know that some casue muscle aches and that means you have to stop them at once. Zocor gives me very vivid dreams that re disturbing, but I kind of do one evry other night. My cholesterols do good on them. Good luck
