Ocean waves. Several methods have been used to try and harness them, but the best seems to a a piston like device anchored to the sea floor and a float type device near or at the surface, as it moves up and down it generates electricity.

hydro electric dams are the best source of energy. Problem is there arent that many in the world. The hoover dam in nevada provides enough power to supply Las Vegas with all its juice. Las Vegas is one of the few things you can see from space, so it shows you how much power they are using. Tidal is probably next best, but its still experimental, within 10 years I think it will be a primary source of power for coastal cities.

depends how you harness it and what you mean by best.....

The problem with wind is the large majority blows in the upper atmosphere this is why there have been efforts to make floating wind turbines, such as the kite turbine....(turbine driven by flying kites)
This is a phenomenal amount of energy

The problem with solar is the current costs of converting it, with the main expense being silicon. (Although they are building very large solar chimneys in Australia)
Also another problem is the atmosphere blocks some of the energy from the sun reaching us this is why they are trying to work on harnessing the energy in space in orbit and send it back to earth via satellite....(I think the Japanease have already sent up a prototype)
This is also a phenomenal amount of energy hitting the earth from the sun...

Tidal, the problem is they do not provide enough energy in the same form as solar and wind energy, there is still a phenomenal amount of electricity over the vastness of our ocean

With geothermal, it is not really renewable because as we harness it we cool it so it will ultimatly cool down in 500 years causing unpredictable environmental effects. Despite this there is a large amount of energy to gain from the core of the earth...

Hydro, many of the worlds hydro sources have been used up leaving room for only micro hydros. Large hydro dams also damage local environment often.(micros dont)

Each one of these sources would provide more energy from this planet then every nuclear and coal station on this planet...
And would also provide every single person on the planet sufficent amounts of electricity........

So depending on location and method of harnessing there is no one "best" source of energy pinpointed yet.
It is almost worldwide agreed in the science community though this "best" source of energy will be certainly renewable.
Also as the sun really is our only source of energy closest to us in the galaxy and is the source of everythin, it is generally agreed the sun will play a large role in any future electricity generation.
