in Islam to propose a man for marriage. One of the first example and of most importance that comes to my mind is that of Hazrat Khadija(May Allah Be Pleased with Her).

Then why is Asian culturies especially subcontinent consider it suspicious if a woman asks a man to marry her.

What do muslim women think about a woman proposing a man. What do men think about it? Is such a woman looked down upon by ur culture if she takes such a step.

Some ppl go to the extent that they say :

"The woman must be too cunning to catch a guy herself"?

I know ppl would say its permitted but I guess everyone must have a separate opinion regarding whether it would be ok to accept or to propose in their case.

When I asked about ur opinion I meant that if u were faced ever by such a situation...and if all else seemed ok to u. Would this be an issue ?

Thanku

no matter if u are a Muslim woman then my question to u is whether u would go ahead and ask someone if he seems like a suitable person to u. And if u are a Muslim man..my question is would you accept the otherwise suitabel candidate who proposed.

Please tell whether "It would be alright for u in paticular" or "no I wouldnt like that",

Thanku. JazakAllah to all Muslims.

It wouldn't bother me at all. More power to the sister. Just because she's digging on a brother doesn't mean she's bad, otherwise the same yardstick could be used regarding men.
A point taken from Public Enemy ("...our sister's not the enemy....")

Most Muslim societies are not representative of the true Islamic actions and beliefs.

In Muhammad's time, women were allowed to go the Mosque, become great scholars and fight in wars.

After Muhammad(AS), Islam filtered through mysogenistic tribes and nations where men were the heads and chiefs, trying to pursue their own agenda.

Muslim men and women should encourage to abide the principles of our religion, men and women are equal in the eyes of Allah. This should be seen in society.

you have quoted a very appropriate example, it is permissable for women to propose to men and vice versa and women should not be looked down upon if they do so. It may be a part of some cultures but nothing to do with the religious teachings. peace to you all

Well, that is more of a cultural phenomenon, than a religious one. If there's a man you love, go ahead and propose him for marriage. God won't judge you.

I think if the man's dopey enough to be influenced by a group of clucking mad women who somehow convince him that being proposed to by a woman who actually may like him is suspicious.. he's obviously pretty stupid and weak.

I reckon this Muslim stuff is fascinating. I've told my woman that if she doesn't behave herself, I will make her wear a burkha, and walk one or two paces behind me whilst carrying home the shopping.

My missus said she wouldn't do it and called me all sorts of names, and actually told me to p*** off !

I said that I wouldn't p*** off when I got so much enjoyment out of making her life a misery.
