"Psychotic reaction" is very vague and is not even an official medical diagnosis. Psychotic symptoms occur in a wide variety of illnesses and conditions. I would ask the doctor for a specific diagnosis then research that disorder.

There are many different kind of psychotic reactions. You experienced hallucinations. I do not know your diagnosis. It is very important that you keep taking medicines. If you stop early than hallucinations might come back and then your condition will become chronic and difficult to treat. If hallucinations were the result of a chemical that you took then most likely after complete treatment it might never come back. There are so many people who had psychotic reaction once in their lives and never again and do very well. You keep taking anti psychotic medications and if you have side effects then let the treating psychiatrist know about it. He will adjust the dose or give you a different one. The psychiatrist who is treating you will decide based upon your signs and symptoms when to stop your treatment. It is a good practice to gradually taper off medicines and not to stop at once. Good luck.

When you have a mental disorder, they never say "cured" rather they say "in remission".
The medication may be the reason why you are no longer having hallucinations, or your mental disorder may be in remission. But do you really want to stop taking your medicine to find out.
Mental health problems are very difficult and generally you don't get the same sort of support from people as physical illnesses.
Your doctor is there to help you manager you mental health problem and over time he should reduce or stop your medication to see if you are ok.
The real problem though, is often without medication, you may relapse but fail to return to your doctor.
Life goes on, concentrate on the areas of life that you can control. People with good social networks, friends and family are less likely to suffer from mental illness.

hi
u haven't mentioned the symptomsand ur exact problem ......as u have mentioned that u saw hallucination i guess u had visual hallucination, it will be better if u had mentioned ur symptoms.... anyway an important suggestion for u is that .....as u are already in treatment you should not discontinue your medication unless ur doctor ask u to do it....after taking drugs u might feel that u are alright but that doesn't mean u should stop taking drugs continue ur medication if u wish to lead a normal life.
Get well soon.

If you stop taking your anti-psychotics the hallucinations will come back. This is a common problem with people who are on anti-psychotics, they stop taking them when they feel better because they don't think they need them anymore, and they get sick again. Don't stop taking your medication, you are not cured, you are managed.
To read about your condition just google it as I have done below. Good luck to you!

What illness? You didn't say the diagnosis....hallucinations are a symptom, not a cause.

My friend,...like I always tell people, just take your meds, because they seem to be working good for you and don't worry about the why's of your hallucinations for now...But I always tell people, to pray to God, and to Jesus, for strength, and for peace in their hearts...I am glad you're feeling better
