Use topical benadryl (or similar) to soothe the itch, the bite will have to heal on it's own.

i find that using rubbing alcohol on mosquito bites will make the itch go away. i think it somehow cleans away the mosquito spit (i don't know the technical term, but the chemical that the mosquito uses to keep your blood from clotting while it drinks from you) that makes you itch.

mark my words: rubbing alcohol!

as for the actual bump/lump/redness. just wait and try not to irritate it.

I think a topical cortisone creme or benedryl is your best answer- but if you dont have either of those handy and the thing is itching you out of your mind- use a coat of clear fingernail polish over the top of it and let it be! that works for chiggers too if you happen to live in an area where those are a problem.

What ever you do dont scratch them they get much itchier, just leave them alone and they will go away. If you are still near mosquitos you can get coils which you burn at night which keeps them away or nets.

In my case.... just wait 5 minutes, but this doesn't work for most. Applying a small amount of bleach can neutralize the irritating substance and provide some relief. They actually sell a product in stores to do this sort of thing in a controlled fashion, and that is what I'd recommend using.

I like to use Vick's vapor rub or Mentholathium on 'em. It seems to help the itch a little bit.

The suggestion with the thumb nail making an x is a good one, it works to stop itching. Also, you can apply vinegar.
