WindowsXP – Steps to a Clean Install

Source: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

This is an excellent website which fully explains installing WindowsXP. Steps to a Clean Install are about halfway down the article.

Have your Product Key available, typical install is around 30 minutes. If setup seems to hang, wait at least 10 minutes + before restarting system. You should experience momentary screen blackouts.

It sounds like either your harddrive is defective, or not detected properly.

If you can, open the computer case and check all connections to and from the harddrive - and just in case, press them gently but firmly to make them secure.

Then, try again.

If it still doesn`t work - you may need to change BIOS settings.
As many computers have different ones, please consult your mainboard manual on how to use your specific BIOS.

If that has been done, and it still doesn`t work, most likely your harddrive is defective. If it is still under warranty - go back to the shop you got it from. If not, get a new harddrive.

Strange..Maybe try to start up computer again and keep pressing the F10 button. this will bring you to a prompt screen and you should be able to see if theres a problem with your hard drive.
