Hey, when I feel a cold related symptom coming I get a small pot with a little water in it (I only drink distilled water since it lakes minerals and chlorine), and once the water boils I turn off the heat and sprinkle in 3 heaping tablespoons of oregano leaves (in most kitchen cupboards). I then inhale as much of the steam as possible to get the oils in the vapor, and if the cold symptoms are huge I wait till the water has cooled down and drink it. Make sure to swirl the leaves in it to get them down too.
By the end of this my cold symptoms are gone!
I still don't know why you would think it is viral - but oregano is a virus, bacteria, and fungal killer. :) and I've been doing this for over 6 years - no colds!

I recently had the same exact thing. I was so scared didn't know what it was. I went to 3 different doctors not one of them said it was anything. One doctor actually told me I was getting older and I had a thin neck so I felt things more. Imagine!!! And he charged me $560 for that piece of information. I went to another ENT, which is where I hope you are going, Ear, nose and throat doctor. She put a tube with a camera at the end up my nose and down my throat and looked around. She said there was some inflammation, which could be allergies, but found nothing scary, like a tumor or cancer. That's what I was afraid of. Since then I have not experienced the feeling of something being in my throat. Mine was on my left side. Good luck at the doctor and make sure you go to an ENT so they can do the test and put your mind at ease.

You could try drinking some ice cold (it will act like an anesthetic if it works) water to see if it helps some of the pain but because you have had this for a while and won't be able to see the dr later next week (I hope I'm understanding this right) I would recommend trying a walk-in clinic like some of the ones that are popping up in some of the big drugstores to see if they can help you start trying to figure out what is going on.
If this pain gets severe or you start to feel short of breath because of it please go to the ER.

Sounds like Strep throat for which you will need an anti biotic. You will have to get you doctor to prescribe one. I suggest you gurgle with salt water to help relieve the discomfort in the mean time. Also, visit your drug store and look for a spray that numbs the throat. Cough drops help too.
I hope you feel better. I have had this twice and it is annoying. If feels like there is a stick in your throat.

Take a flashlight look at the back of your throat if you see white stuff at the back of your throat if there is its most likely strep throat. You should go to the ER if you can't get into the dr. soon.
