This Is Interesting Because It Says In The Bible That You Should Treat Your Body As A Living Sacrefice Holy And Accepatable To The Lord, Your Body Is Suppose To Be A Sacred Place A Temple If You Will, For The Holy Spirit To Dwell in To Keep You Sanctified And Clean And Pure Before God; Think of it this way, Its Like Putting Graphittie All Over Something Just To Make A Statement Of Defiance, So Wouldnt That Make The Same Statement Against Your Body For God? It Says In The Bible About What Happens When You Mark Your Body. Also Would You Tattoo The Number 666 On You To Show That You Would Follow Satan?

Also In Saying This, I Got Me One When I Was Not In My Right Frame Of Mind, And Now I Will Suffer A Consequence For My Actions Since I Knew It Was Something Personally I Shouldnt Have Done And I Have To Live With It My Whole Life, Proof Has Been Stuck On Me, And Not A Good One Either, They Are Curling Snakes, A Coral Snake, A Rattle Snake, And Cobra; All Three Venomous Snakes Wrapped Around Each Other, What That Tell You? Plus I Have To Live With It Not Finished! It Was Illegally Put On, I Told You I Was Not In The Right Frame Of Mind.

Think Of This Too: People Wear Tattoos Openly Cuz They Are Not Ashamed Of Them Right? So Why As A Christian Would You Want To Get One Just So You Can Keep It Hidden From People You Know Will Think Differently Of You For Getting It? Tattoos Were Meant To Show Off And If Your Getting It Not To Show Off Around Those You Would Be Comfortable With, Why Get It? If Your Hiding Something, That Will Shine Out Even More. Because There Is Something More Your Hiding Than Just A Tattoo.

Sin is the transgression of the law (1 John 3:4). The law is the Ten Commandments.

Obviously the admonition against tattoos is not a part of the Ten Commandments.

"You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord" (Leviticus 19:28).

A Christian is considered to be a lively stone (1 Peter 2:5) of the temple of God, with Christ as the chief corner stone. Markings on God's temple are unsightly.

But, once again, it is a less important ordinance. Not something to get OCD over.

To be fair I've got nothing against a tattoo, though it's not for me. I think it says it once in the bible (though I might be wrong) and it also says in the passage that we shouldn't cut our hair.

One thing you have to think about though, is about the culture and steretypes around getting a tattoo. In china for example, getting a tat is associated with the mafia. Is this the image you want to portray? I know a few christians who have got a tattoo, and they are fine with God. but make sure you are doing it for the right reasons, and that no one else will get the wrong idea.

Question: "What does the Bible say about tattoos / body piercings?"

Answer: The Old Testament law commanded the Israelites, “Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD” (Leviticus 19:28). So, even though believers today are not under the Old Testament law (Romans 10:4; Galatians 3:23-25; Ephesians 2:15), the fact that there was a command against tattoos should cause us to question. The New Testament does not say anything about whether a believer should or should not get a tattoo.

In relation to tattoos and body piercings, a good test is to determine whether we can honestly, in good conscience, ask God to bless and use the particular activity for His own good purposes. "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31). The Bible does not command against tattoos or body piercings, but it also does not give us any reason to believe God would have us get tattoos or body piercings.

Another issue to consider is modesty. The Bible instructs us to dress modestly (1 Timothy 2:9). One aspect of dressing modestly is making sure everything that should be covered by clothing is adequately covered. However, the essential meaning of modesty is not drawing attention to yourself. People who dress modestly dress in such a way that they do not draw attention to themselves. Tattoos and body piercings most definitely draw attention. In this sense, tattoos and body piercings are not modest.

An important Scriptural principle on issues that the Bible does not specifically address is that if there is room for doubt as to whether it pleases God, then it is best to not engage in that activity. "For whatsoever is not of faith is sin" (Romans 14:23). We need to remember that our bodies, as well as our souls, have been redeemed and belong to God. Although 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 does not directly apply to tattoos or body piercings, it does give us a principle, "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." This great truth should have a real bearing on what we do and where we go with our bodies. If our bodies belong to God, we should make sure we have His clear "permission" before we "mark it up" with tattoos or body piercings.

I myself have my ears pierce but that is as far as I go. I never wanted to have any tatoos because of the dangers of the instruments not being sterile. But I would pray before you do anything like getting a tatoo. this is just my opinion . hope this stuff I sent you helps.l

I dont want to do something wrong, against my beliefs.

Not to down you, but don't you know what you're beliefs are? Seriously are you asking people what you believe? Or are you asking people what god thinks about tattoos, like they would know more about god than you do?

Get the tat. They're cool. A god that would send you to hell for a little skin art sounds like a meanie to me.

Why in the world would anyone need to get a tattoo or even have a piercing done?its so childish and stupid to want to tattoo yourself simply to be "cool, sexy' etc.it is neither cool or sexy-simply stupid! the bible has a verse against it but thats not why i think its stupid-but have you seen how silly an old lady/man looks sporting a tattoo? and guess what-in a few years You will be the old lady/man sporting a stupid tattoo...If you really want to be "cool ,sexy "etc, why not be different and normal by NOT getting a silly tattoo,or do u really want to go around looking like a comic book?Resist this stupid peer pressure crap that dictates what is cool and sexy.

Greetings,

"Suzie D" was spot on. Personally I dislike tattoos.....to me, anyone who wears one is like saying "Hey! I don't think my heart and mind are that interesting to others, but look at what I did to my body!! Do you like me now?? "

In other words, it's a sellout to vanity and losing a piece of yourself by trying to please others around you. Also, just think that one day you might be a parent, what would you say if your kid wanted to put a dragon or whatever else they thought was cool on their arm/back/front/neck/wherever?? Set a good example to others.

In Revelations even, many people will have the "mark" on them....this mark is a symbol of belonging to the world and not to God (be it for greed, sexual immorality, adherence to the world's views of what is acceptable and cool). Those who worship the beast and its ways will perish automatically. Stay strong, don't fall for the foolish glitter that comes and goes with every passing decade......look to improve upon yourself in mind, body and spirit, for your soul can outlast decades if you are worthy to receive everlasting life come Judgement Day.

Take care and love yourself,
Good day.

I believe it is in Leviticus, that states we are not to mark our flesh. I found the correct verse when my daughter got a tattoo. Honstly, however, I don't think it's that huge a sin because Gods forgiveness is overpowering and infinite...but yes, there is scipture againat tattooing.

As long as your intention is not to piss God off.

Your pastor probably is not going to be happy if you have a tattoo...

But God looks into your heart!!

Having a tattoo doesn't mean that you give up your faith.

Right?
