I like this notion of reincarnation, after all if I mess this life up I would rather have another then have fiery pokers shoved up my a rse in some kind of hell. Wouldn't wont any memories of the other life though, kinda weird if your "old" family were still around

Reincarnation: some people do have residual memories, enough of this has been documented in India, Sikkim, Tibet and the far east.
Your present life is a chance to evolve. It's another chance, being born as a human being which is one of the most articulate of sentient beings. Our present life is a chance to undo negative karma and to try to attain supreme consciousness. When that is attained, no need to reincarnate.
Being born as an animal is not necessarily a punishment. Even the Buddha took incarnation as a rabbit in another life.
The heaven or hell concept is a reward/punishment concept. A lot of Westerners, with ac Christian background translated eastern texts, and so, the transalation is innacurate.
We talk of 'higher' or 'lower' incarnations.
Peace and happiness!

All that happens seems to happen based on the principle of "cause & effect". It is not reward or punishment. It is both - reward and punishment, at the superficial level, to exhaust our karma. But we also end up creating new karmas.
But at the deeper level, it is an opportunity. This life is, as every life is, an opportunity for the evolution of consciousness. Reincarnation is an opportunity that is created but how much is it used depends on self-knwoedge or self-realization. Memory of past life is not stored as in logbooks but as tendencies (vasanas) and impressions (samskaras). Even in this life, we cannot remember everything but in our subtle mind, our actions and experiences are stored in the background infuencing our current thinking and actions. Perhaps, the impressions of actions in our past life are stored in our consciousness. The solution for overcoming the cylce of birth, death and reincarnation lies in freeing the conscousnes from a conditioned state to a liberated and blissful state by overcoming our vasanas and tendencies of attractions and aversions.

Becasue of one's Karma only, somebody is born with diseases, poverty, foolish etc...and suffers because of that. That is the reason why somebody is born with good health, richness intelligence etc... and is happy because of that.
It is the misconception people have that God puts one in that condition. The all merciful Lord who is compassionate would be showing partiality to put somebody in misery while somebody is enjoying life happily.
"I am no Hindu, but I hold the doctrine of the Hindus concerning a future state (rebirth) to be incomparably more rational, more pious, and more likely to deter men from vice than the horrid opinions inculcated by Christians on punishments without end." -Sir William Jones
Bad people may not live miserable life in a recent times. But in future the reaction will come. It is only the question of time. When one plants seeds the tree doesn't grow immediately. It takes time to grow, fructify and bear fruits. Just because we don't see the fruits in the tree immediately, we cannot say that the tree will not give fruits in the future.

Reincarnation isn't about reward and punishment, it's about learning. We incarnate to explore different aspects of our souls, and whether we have a 'good' life or a 'bad' life depends on what exactly we are exploring or learning about.
Knowing what lessons we are trying to learn in a specific life would alter how we learn, which is why we don't consciously remember.

There isn't any reward or punishment ... there is no god to reward or punish in the Christian/Islamic sense.
When we are reborn, we enter into a new life at the level our actions in our previous life has merited.
We must simply live as well as we can, and deal with the life that is before us. Whether we are conscious of past lives or not, our karma is always there.

I think it is just trying to get it right the this time round. You have instinct which may lead you away from mistakes you made last time. You love and you hate things often without real reason, it's just the way it is, an echo of a past perhaps? And of course deja vu, which is an amazing sensation, but one without real explanation.

There is no reward or punishment. This is to learn. How can we learn without hardships? We come back until we understand what we need to know. This plane of existence's can be wonderful so coming back can be great. Sometimes we have hard lessons to learn then life is hard. See you on the other side.

If this life is a punishment then you have a bad life or you are an animal.
If it is a reward then you have a good life.

My personal beliefs are this, if you have come back again to repeat life, like I have several times, then it's because you haven't learned the lessons you were supposed to learn previously. After you've learned all those lessons, then you go on to higher plane of existence.
